the Beaufighter has the useless observer currently

please give him AI .303 gun

OR

remove 200lbs from Beaufighter

thank you

also, isnt the 20mm cannon ammo load short?

Ask Pingu for the documents on the 20mm cannon ammo. I think he has it. And yes apparently the ammo is short...by a few hundred rounds possibly.

What is in FB is an Australian Mk21 which, by the time they appeared in operational theatres had little or no chance of seeing an an enemy aircraft let alone late-war Japanese planes that could even catch the Beau. As a result the rear gun was often deleted to save weight and I would guess to seal up the blister to make the crewman's spot a little less draughty http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . Even when it was fitted, it was hardly ever unstowed from its storage position.

Also, gunner was the last in line of the crewman's duties. He was the navigator, radio operator and mechanic as well.

Finally as to the ammo count, the Mk21 differed from most other marks as it used belted ammo for the Hispanos as opposed to drum mags (which incidentaly were refilled by your 200lb of deadweight) so figures relating to other Beau marks don't necessarily automatically apply to the 21.

So it isn't broken (from a particular point of view), don't expect a fix.

And if you really want someone to blame, blame Macarthur for not letting the RAAF fight alongside the USAAF in the Phillipines.

i dont really have anything concrete on the ammo loadout http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

currently 120 rpg, irl, the beus (english ones anyways) had 240/283 rounds each.

the really early ones, the guy in the back swapped the drums i belive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

later ones have belt feeds
got a pic of rear cockpit at hendon, u can see the ammo box with holes in and a number by it for how many rounds, but cant find em atm http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Oh and forget re-loading in flight for the MK21 unless you have a spare 28min. Thats how long it took on the ground with a full ground crew.

The Mk. 1 used drums but these were replaced by belts in later versions. The Mk. 21 is essentially a mix of VIC and X versions in RAF service (but with different wing guns) and both of these used belts - 240 or 283 rounds per 20mm cannon. Those documents pourshot linked indicate even more than 283,though.

ok, smarty....wouldnt at least "6 oclock threat shouter-outer" be #1 job?

we have a beau that doesnt need that crewman for navigating, operating radio, or mech repairs in a FB/virtual context...we get a IL2 gunner that *****es about bumpy take offs, yet the beau "observer" is mum about that zero diving at high 6...YA, RIGHT!

but a gunner, or less weight, or a verbal threat warning IS badly need...the beau IS broke, and DOES need a fix

having any one of those three options (esp a gun or verbal warning) would go a LONG way to helping beaus survivablilty, and address the issues it currently has vis-avis RL/FB beau

@POURSHOT http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif lets hope that we get the ammo load corrected, thanks to your documents

Thge only hope of living in a Beau if you have a hun behind you is to firewall it, half close the rads and stay at about 500 feet. You'll get 300 miles out her then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think the beaufighter should have the observerposition functional, so one could observe the rear, since the pilot cant see anything backwards.

Anyway a nice plane. pitty they forgot the observer.

u cant see anything past 90degrees or so...
u can completely forget about SA in full real, just open the throttle and fly fast and hope..

think its slower in this patch aswell http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Geez you never hear people crying for the B-17 radioman to get his .50 flexible back let alone that the poor sod never bails out...

Waah I want that fixed as well as the IL2 fieldmod gunner first...waah

Daiichidoku
10-10-2005, 07:37 PM
the B 17 isnt flyable (with cockpits), and as such, doesnt really matter so much..besides, hed only shoot towards the wrong direction as the attack is coming from, anyhow, lol

the IL2 field mod, at least GETS AI gunner AND he talks!

the beau only needs ONE of those, at least

Add an invisible AI gunner. It has a new (invisible) gun. The gun has an ROF of 2 rounds per minute and opens fire at 1000m. It shoots nothing damaging, but makes a loud noise. The noise is a human voice saying "Bandit, 6 O'clock!"

We're missing all sorts of loadouts from the Mk. 21. (A X would be nice for the UK).

We should be able to load 1000lb bombs on the wings. We should also be able to load 2 500lb bombs on the fuselage. We should also get things such as WP and napalm.

Stringent precautions must be taken to avoid cracking bombs during handling.
It was generally regarded as insanely dangerous to its own operators.
