How in blue blazes does one escape from "The allmighty, all knowing AI Destroyers" ? Apparently thermo layering is non-exsistant in the simhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

If it's just some tactic I havent figured out, is there a resoruce that I can check out for tactics that work (once you have 1 or more DD's pinging on you?

You can ALWAYS escape... Use your 'Noggin' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Obviously silent running. I just stay the course. If one is on an attack run, I make a hard turn then. Run deep as possible and adjust my depth as the charges are set to your last known depth. For the most part I'm able to get out without issue. It is harder with two or more as they start to triangulate thus zeroing in on you. I would say that 9 out of 10 encounters I escape without a scratch. Best bet, do not attempt to sink any destroyers, just look for the helpless merchants. Besides no one in your u-boat will tell anyone in port that you ran like a sissy when a destroyer showed up! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

im always changing depth , course , and speed (if hes dropping cans) but if hes not im running slow and silent. and if one hangs out long enough , and annoys me to the 5th power , ill sneak out about 1900 meters or so headed away from him, go to periscope depth , go flank speed ahead , beat pots against the walls ,make a bunch of noise and when he gives chase ,let go the rabid fish from the stern tube. he'll have a hard time chasing you when hes a member of sea world.

When the contact appears on your map, click on it. If you are closed in enough two dotted circles appear. The inner one shows the range of hearing, the outer shows their range of sight. Using this info, then check depth under keel, you can attack the convoy etc.
To then escape the dd's, as long as you have noted your depth under keel, go silent and as deep as you can. Do not be tempted to time comp' as this can lead to disaster. You need to be very very patient as escaping will take a long time, minmise any movements, even come to all stop and just sit there.
During a group dd attack, remember just because you see two red contact lines on your map, it does not mean there is only two dd's. Sometimes one will sit still while the other two do the sweeping. Go very deep, be very patient and be prepared to stay under a long time.
Note, if you have an officer with machinist qualifications, put him into your damage control party

Hi,

If a destroyer detects me and is actively pinging, I'll go flank-speed, then dive deep, get some good speed going, then glide silent to a lower depth. I'll then run very silent and go even deeper (checking the keel depth) and beam him. Once I have an idea of where he is, I'll sneak around behind him (he's deaf there), then head away. I can easily open up 5000 yards. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Once I'm far enough away, I'll start to come up (slowly) and return to the mission. If there are 2 or 3 and they are getting accurate with their depth charges, I'll go as deep as possible and just sit there. Record so far is 1 hr 37 mins at 210m (IXD2). Real-time.

Best regards,
Vonheisen.

check out our fansite dude. IT has some walkthroughs of escape tactics etc. Escape from anything is possible! Except about 5 destroyers in shallow water. I think this is near to impossible :P

S~ Gents, and thank you for all your suggestions and comments. I believe I have to lower my settings a bit. A dedicated IL2FB (Series) Fan, I thought I could just jump right in my new sub (Cockpit) and go full real right off... but man was I ever wrong. This is totally different. Even though I havent figured out how to aim the torpedo's, I have figured out how to attract all kinds of Warships, and they all want a piece of my a$$.
