Hi guys i have purchased IL" forgottenbattles and a trackir4 set which i should have either today or tomorrow, and now i found out that 1946 is the later of the il2 series so i was just wondering if i have made a big mistake as i prefer to play online rather then single player. So my question is do alot of people still play forgotten battles or am i outta luck????

Unfortunately, you're out of luck. The online game of choice now is IL2 1946 patched to 4.08. Very, very few fly the original IL2 game. I suggest you purchase a copy of the DVD for online play.

which forgotten battles did you get? the complete edition by any chance? if so i think that goes up to 4.04m, and has the pacific fighters and aces expansion pack already in it. i fell for that one myself, slightly annoying to have bought it and then fork out again three months later for 1946, but it was well worth it. if it's the original FB then... someone else will be along to let you know cos i don't. will certainly need patching to deal with (if i recall correctly) the huge muzzle flashes.

yes

but really, do yourself a favor and splurge for the DVD and patch up to 4.08. It's easily worth it and you'll have hundreds of chaps to fly with 'round the clock.

Yep you almost have to be on 4.08 (which is IL-2 1946 plus one free patch) to play online. There are a few servers with FB 1.22 (which was the last of the IL-2 Forgotten Battles patches) that were around but I haven't gone looking for them or seen then in a while so its hard to say.

IL-2 Forgotten Battles is a great game on its own and you *should* spend some time offline getting used to it a bit but IL-2 1946 is definitely the superior product in all ways...particularly in content and flight modeling.

Get '46, don't feel too bad, most of us who have been around longer have bought FB, AEP, PF, some got the paid addon PE-2, then bought the 1946 DVD on top of it all, lol.
