Impossible to login to play at UBI.com lobbies.

"UBI.com Database problem. Please notify the administrator."

This is a shame as on busy nights about 150 people play various versions of IL2. Older versions are only possible to find on this lobby these days. If this is an effort to boost sales of AEP and PF, these guys are very clever, congratulations.

I am having the same problem, was in there last night with no problems. As far as I know I'm running the latest version i.e merged with 4.02 patch so I don't think it's anything to do with having to upgrade.

I have asked a question at the UBI.com support site and apparently the servers are down. Doesn't say for how long, maintainence perhaps?

I know that when you are used to using one site to play it is a pain when it folds but, above is an excellant alternative.

In Hyperlobby there are seperate rooms for original IL2, Pacific Fighters Standalone and the combined IL2FB/AEP/PF whole shebang deal with the latest patch and assorted bells and whistles

On slow nights about 150 play various versions of IL2, on busy about 800.

Hyperlobby may take a bit of getting used to but it is well worth the effort.

rnzoli, I have a backyard full of IL2 parts already but thanks for the offer.

Hyperlobby is indeed an excellent gaming applet. I've been poking around there ever since the original Jane's Combat.net went offline for the last time way back in April of '00.

Boy, do I feel old...

I agree 99%, although I need to point out small 2 weaknesses, where UBI.com was better:
- there is still a small but stable community of players that still use version 1.22 and there is no separate lobby for them on HL
- there is no way to search for a setting you like.

Pretty much in line with the overall decline of UBI.com services.
- c.a. 3 months ago they had instability problems and they 'solved' it with disabling common lobby chat (a must for beginners having setup problems and no friends yet)
- about 2 months ago, the dedicated server launcher became a problem, often registering the server in the wrong lobby (I wrote support request to ubi only to read that there is no support for anything like this)
- about a week ago, dedicated server became kicked frequently for no reason
- and now, total blackout.

This is quite a logical way to shut down a free service that was getting worse and worse over the past 6 months.

Can you send some of your parts, so I can reconstruct my stricken bird and fly it again? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well thats good , not about Ubi don't get me wrong, but I thought the PC was up the sh**er.

Been online for about 4 months and have just joined a SQDN , first team fight was tonight thought I was going to let everone down, but it seams that the only letdown is UBI again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

UBI has never been "the place" as far as flying... The same guy who told me to buy IL2 3 years ago told me to go to Hyperlobby.... before I even bought IL2.... and any newb on these forums who posts anything with "online" in it.. gets deluged with posts about Hyperlobby.... suck it up, leave the minors and come to where the big boys play.

Go ahead and break the bank and go full merged... even if you "dont like" the PTO..... you wont be sorry. I can almost gaurantee it. If you dont want to do that then why not go to HL and start a room called FB 1.22 yourself... heck somebody has to do it... and if thats what you like try it... you might be surprised. If you cant upgrade because of availability then come here and say so.. I bet folks would be willing to help you. As far as checking out the settings before you go into a room.. you can do that on HL already. Just hit the name of someone in the room an r click it... or hit the room and r click it.. it will tell you who is there and what the settings are. Lastly.... if you havent downloaded Hyperlobby because of some "security" issue.. that I will leave unnamed... that is an outright lie started by someone whose name is unmentionable here.. but he had some issues with the develeoper of HL and decided to try to sabotage his efforts... there is no truth to those rumors at all. I have had no issues and I have been dealing with HL since 01/02... so GO FOR IT!!!! NO EXCUSES!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Just to state the facts: 150 for all IL2 version there. But many, many more for other UBI-released games... lots of cursing went on I guess....

Agree, it has been 'a place' (not 'the place'). For a few hundred people at least.

True again, but this 'big boy' attitude is putting some people off HL. If you don't have a squadron tag, you're just fresh meat for the tigers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Since a few months, I do have 4.02m as well. Not flying it online, but laughing my a$$ off seeing the orchestra of whining after each patch on these forums and on HL chat as well.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by Bearcat99:

This is cool again, but having 50+ servers active, it would actually be nicer to have search capability, instead of checking each server one by one, looking for a pit on/pit off server (whichever you like).

All-Seeing Eye can do that, what's more, it provides fully correct list of players. HL and UBI shows only those joining via their own clients... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.

I appreciate this support, but I have HL ID for many months now. I have tried to find a 1.22 server for days without success (AEP is not sold in this country - only FB and PF, duh.) UBI.com saved the day and provided good fun for people like me, stuck with 1.22 for a while. The problem is that when you make friends in one place, it is difficult to move away and leave them behind. I guess the community of HL thinks the same way. So I am in the process of convincing all my friends to move to HL, but I will surely register my little friendly server on ASE and UBI as well, not just HL. I hope this is no offense to anyone at HL.

It may not have been a deliberate outage. A server failure due to hardware failure can sometimes take days to rectify where it involves rebuilding large or complex databases and integrating them with other applications.

Working with this stuff myself, I can say this is not completely true. If the systems have adequate internal redundancy, downtimes can go into a few hours, but definitely not days.

Not having redundancy is a deliberate choice. Not ensuring that the users are informed through their web-site is also a deliberate choice.

I only suspect that they don't have 7/24 maintenance/support for their servers, so when a fuse tripped during Sunday, we all had to wait until a technician flipped it back on Monday morning. That's a remarkably common scenario for systems that provide free services. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
