I just picked up a new monitor...WOOT!

It's a 21" LCD (upgrade from the 19" I had, but it also has a 5ms response time and contrast ratio of 800:1 (also both upgrades from my previous of 25ms and 500:1 respectively).

I have a decent rig and the native resolution on my new screen is 1600x1200. Accordingly I changed my game settings to this resolution but haven't had a chance to 'test' it yet. My philosophy is since I'm running a higher res, then I don't need the extensive AA and AF I was applying at 1024x768. I dropped the AA to x2 and turned off the AF for now.

I ran 1 sortie in QMB and it looks absolutely stunning, but...I'm a bit concerned about online play and all the AAA and other moving objects and how it will all effect my FPS.

1. What resolution and gfx settings are you currently running? What resultant issues?

2. Any suggestions?

I'm going to be home most of the day today and fully intend on wringing it out a bit, but wanted to ask for any input some of you may have with these higher settings.

I currently have a P4 3.4, 2gig pc4400 ram, MSI 6800 Ultra. None of it is oc'd, but I wanted to possibly crank it up a bit (likely NOT until after this weekend though) to squeeze a bit more performance from it all.

1280x1024 @ 75Hz on my 19" Samsung 930BF - 4ms reaction time.

Sometimes I plug in my old CRT-Monitor to play with 1600x1200. The image quality comes nowhere near my TFT though.

My grafics are set to perfect, water2 or 4, AAx4 & AF x2Q. I Usually play with OpenGL and get around 50-180FPS. (Though I usually lock it down with ScreenSync)

My Rig is an DFI nF4U Board with an A64 3200+, 2 Gig @ 400MHz, a passively cooled Asus N7800GT set to dynamical overclocking.

AFAIK problems with online lags caused by FlaK mainly depend on the server, number of players and their and your own connection.

If you want to check how much you can take, run the BlackDeath track and watch the FPS.

I have been running a 20.1" Dell 2001fp for about a year now. It also has a native 1200x1600 resolution. I have run 1200x1600 for years now though, but always on excellent settings until I got a x850xtPE along with this lcd, then I could run good framerates in perfect mode.

I have tried going back to lower resolution now and then, but it is just not as good. With 1200x1600 you can pick out groups of planes at a distance that look like one blob at lower resolution. And yes, all the instruments and such look as round as can be and the numbers and letters look just great without so much or any AA or AF.

I run an old(now!)a7n8x with an xp3200/32bit and 1gig of ram, so I think you might have 5-10% horsepower on my rig Thunderbolt. I get 59fps on the BeauTorp track, and thirty something on the BlackDeath. I can't remember exactly. But except for over large cities, my fps online is great, and good enough that I would never consider dropping resolution or down from perfect settings.
I don't know what they are saying when you can spot stuff easier at lower resolution, maybe it is a crt thing, because I can spot dots easiest on the lcd at this high res and on perfect mode, no contest.

I have pretty much the same monitor as you thunder, mine is 21 inch and the same resoulution. On the native resolution with af off and aa at 2x it looks amazing, but i only have this for offline play because when i go online i can see my enemies plane(dot) better and from further away, my card is a nvidia 7800 gt so my graphics are great. My only problem online is that i cant see the enemys plane too well with the native resoulution so i only set it at that for offline play. Just saw jumos response, i guess its a difference of opinion for some. I will try it tonight online with 1200x1600 and get back to you, before i had a hard time seeing (maybe its my eyes).

Hey, hey !
Congratulations! I have got also 19'' LCD and running it on 1280x1024 with full options on AAx4 AFx16 or AAx8 (or SLIx8) and AFx8.
Looks great, but i'm thinking to switch to 21'' (i was thinking about 24'' but i'm wxpecting some troubles with 16:10 and i don't think so that new incoming titles will provide support for it)

Can you tell me, hom much is the diffrence between 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 in the game ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

How do you set it above the settings in the pull down box in the setup. Is this in the config file? I think I can only get like 12xx x 9xx something in my pull down box.

go to your il2 folder, find conf.ini file, open it in notepad and :
[window]
width=1280
height=1024
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0

I use 1024x768 on the monitor and in-game. For screenshots I ONLY change the in-game resolution to 1280x960 (screenshots are taken during track playback).

I have the colour set to 16-bit on the monitor and set to 32-bit in the game's 'setup' (I can't remember why, but I did some testing a while back and think that this gives me the best perfomance).

On the graphics card (performance & quality settings): set to High Performance.
AA and Anisotropic filtering OFF on the graphics card (NVidea Ti 4600).

update: O.k., I did a small amount of testing and dropped my res to 1280x960. It runs perfectly smooth and I still have a slight boost in res over the 1024x768 I had been running (which is a good thing). I guess I'm spoiled and can't stand anything but smooth gameplay. I put my AA back to 4x at this resolution but have yet to really test it further.

Ultimately, I WANT to be able to leave it at 1600x1200 and with my current AGP rig may be somewhat limited until I upgrade to PCIE and SLI.

On the other hand, NV is trying to breathe more life into its AGP line by introducing a 7800 series for AGP that improves on the performance of the 6800 series...even the Ultra. Given the distant release date of BoB and the pending expansions yet to come for this series, I may just drop the coin for this modest upgrade before I delve into the dark world of OCing to get the best image+smoothest play possible from my rig. See it here: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/13/nvidias_geforce_...ecomes_a_better_buy/ (http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/13/nvidias_geforce_7800gs_becomes_a_better_buy/)

Looks like a marginal (but noticeable!) upgrade for current 6800 series users that simply don't/can't make the complete platform switch to PCIE.
