Lordy, I read a book of collected ferry pilot notes 23 years ago. My local library had them. I think it was one of two occasions that I've ever contemplated the despicable act of public library book theft. The other time was 20 years ago, and it was Fear and loathing Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.

The collection that I had covered P39'S, beaufighters, both Merlin and Griffon Spitfires, and most interestingly the B24 Liberator among others. The B24 was a hell of a sophisticated plane for its time. Designed to be flown mostly by a Sperry autopilot, once the aircraft was wheels up and stable in the climb. The notes reckoned that its handling characteristics outside of these circumstances weren't terribly nice IIRC.
