As I sit here and read the forums, (and drink a beer or 2) and listen to some old Iron Maiden, a thought occured to me. If I were to listen to music whilst in the life and death struggle that is the dogfight (of course I dont), what would it be? At the moment I would have to go with "Where Eagles Dare" by Maiden. And a few other Maiden classics as they wrote such good war epics. (ahhh the 80's - long hair, denim, and METAL!!!! LOL)

And you? What would you listen to?

Seen those Iron Eagle movies a bit too often, have we?

The cockpit's no place for music, son. The sound of that Merlin, or BMW, or Double Wasp, or whatever's in front of ya, that's all the music you need.

What the heck? We've had metal for about 1500 years. We build things like aeroplanes from it. Why is it suddenly a type of music?? it makes a mockery of my design engineering module... stop it!

Personally, there's only ONE Maiden song I would consider:

There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we€ve got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there€s no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it€s too late.

Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. aces high.

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.

Bandits at 8 o€clock move in behind us
Ten me-109€s out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns

Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, aces high.

As a big fan of HM/HR i usually like to listen to something that will give me some encouragement such as Megadeths "Good Mourning Black Friday" some of the lyrics such as "I'm out to destroy you and, i will cut you down" can help http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ,but usually flying lonewolf on WC's it ends up being Slayer's "Mandatory Suicide" and the line "Raped by machinegun fire" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif,
Other good tracks such as Motorheads "Dead men tell no tales" and "over your shoulder" also get you in the mood http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif along with Megadeth's "Hanger 18", "502", "Peace sells, but who's buying" and not forgetting Metallica's "For whom the bells toll" and "Seek and destroy".
Iron Maidens "Tailgunner" cause the AI's good at making a mess of my Spitfire http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif, also Maidens "Sun and Steel" tis good, and "Run to the hills" or "run for the clouds" in my case http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif or Hawkwinds "Hurry on sundown".
Other good tunes such as Drowning Pool's "Let the bodies hit the floor", Deep Purple's "might just take your life"...then again might not http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif, AC/DC's "Gone Shooting" and "Rock 'n' Roll d-a-m-nation" are good to go aswell...then to calm myself down and finish off with Creed's "Freedom Fighter",and with little to no teamwork on WC's.. CooperTemple Clause's "Who needs enemies" with allies like these, only j/k http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and then taking it real easy with Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here" funnily enough written about a son and his father who was a fighter pilot, and of course Black Sabbath's "War pigs", Bad Company's "Running with the pack", Led Zepellin's "Battle of evermore" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif...but if all that fails try Bolt Thrower's "No Guts, No Glory"...and if that doesnt get you killed nothing will http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Welcome to the IL-2 forums M8, where people who are convinced that their opinions are indeed the only ones with merit and validity outnumber the Gnu.

As for me, I know I'm not holding a wheel or passing cars but Golden Earrings " Radar Love" always fits the mood well for me.

First, Johnny Cash and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.

Then Jimi Hendrix, Steely Dan, Hank Williams, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, Bessie Smith, R. Wagner, J. Strauss and L. Beethoven. Not necessarily in that order.

Psychobabbler forestalled me. Was also thinking of Learning to fly by Pink Floyd. Especially when doing the last mission I did in BoB, which I had to do about 7 or 8 times before I could finish it.

I dont really listen to music when I fly.

diomedes33

When I'm flying alone in my 190, I usually throw in Tool - Aenima. Lyrics don't have much to do with flying but the overall style of the music is very dark and opressive with a hint of paranoia. Perfect for the 190.

If I'm flying jabo, I put in Steven Stills - Tree Top Flyer for a good laugh.

If I could listen to music while flying, I would have to say:

Tool (anything by or Aenema)
Black Sabbath - War Pigs
Faith No More - Epic

Probaby many others that I can't think of right now.
