So, my system kept locking up, crashing and the like. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif
It seemed to occur more frequently when running SH3.
I un-installed SH3, commander, jme??? mod tool.
I did my best to hunt down and erase all files associated with SH3 and associates.

Then during the re-install I started getting messages about mod files like (periscope, dials, other mods) being in place of where SH3 wanted to write. I also had similar messages when I tried to install the 1.4 patch. AAArrrrggggg!!
I have been working on trying to fix this for about a week now. Starting to contemplate wiping out my drive, but I would really prefer not to. I might even lay off the "suds" for a bit and save the money for a new system. I just don't know anymore.

I guess the purpose of my post is to warn others to be mindfull of what they are doing. I'm guessing that I did not un-install in a correct order. I also missed some mod files somewhere and the heavens only know what else I have done wrong.

I miss my simulation, I'm having withdrawls, getting the sssshshshshakes.

Boy Howdy, now I've really gone and done it.

I am open to any pointers, advice, knowledge, that any of you may have. I'm also accepting sympathy, heckling, and anything else I have brought upon myself. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Well, that's bad news mate.

Let's try to sort it out and get you up running.

What are your system specs?
What operating system?
How old is your installation?
Did you ever do a disk cleanup and a defragmentation?

Do you have an anti virus scanner and a firewall active?

If you have a virus scanner - update your signatures and run a complete systemcheck.

If you have no scanner - install Avira AntiVirus - it's free, easy to handle and reliable (XP, Vista, W7) and run the scan.

How did you deinstall the SH3 files? Did you use the deinstallation routine of your OS? Or did you simply delete them?

I had the same problem recently. I'd lost the original game disk and so bought a new one. My pc didn't like it one bit. I had to root-out every last scrap of the previous install, buy a dedicated un-installer program and run that and defrag a few times. Took me about a week to get the new game up and running.

One bit of software that caused me endless problems when trying to install the new game and dowload patches and mods was Mozilla Firefox, and when I deleted that most of my problems went away.

You could also try an external hard drive and either back-up your existing files to it before wiping your pc drive or installing and running the game from the external drive. Something I was seriously considering if I hadn't been able to get it to work.

Wow!
Thanks for wanting to help and the feedback. I will gather all the information and get back with it. I want to make sure that I write it all down and that it is accurate.

I did use the UN-install feature provided by SH3. The others I just removed using MS Add/Remove feature. Then the scraps were "deleted".

A fine pickle I'm in.

Howdy All! Good News!

After countless hours of searching, deleting, refreshing, profanities, beer, updates, downloads, and help from some tech friends, I am back on patrol.

I learned alot and hope I remember all I learned.

My system is back up and running and away I go.

Thank you for willingness to help, not laughing too loud, and sympathies.

Schnell!

Glad to hear you are back up to speed. I remember how frustrated I was when my copy wouldn't do what it said on the tin!

Happy hunting!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
