They only had F4Fs on the island? Is that accurate?

Marine Air Group 22 was on the island at the time of the Battle. MAG-22 had 19 SBD-2s, 17 SB2U-3s, 21 F2A-3s and seven F4F- 3s.

In game terms, the F4F-3, F2A-2, and SBD-2 are all correct choices for the USMC at Midway.

Thanks guys for the education and my point is I don't have those choices. Guess I am looking for confirmation that is how it is...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

According to Lundstrom (a pretty damn definitive source), there were 18 F2A-3s, and 6 F4F-3s scrambled June 4th. No F4F-4s based at Midway. Note that NHawk's numbers are likely correct, the balance may not have been able to get airborne (3xF2A-3, 1xF4F-3).

1 of the F4F-3s was "on the fritz" on 4 June, as were a couple of F2A-3s.

When you say you don't have those choices, are you talking about the DGen Midway campaign? Becaue the F2A-2 can be editted in there (or you could use my True Pacific

hmmm... what is DGen... the off line mission set that comes with the game? Then yes.

How do I force a plane into a mission set?

I was going to wait but I guess this is as good an ooportunity...

I am looking for an improved version, better historical accuracy, of the included mission set plus an expansion so to speak. Surely planes were flying between January 30th 1942 and the battle of Midway in June as one example. I don't want everyday (January 1st-30th got kinda dull) as much as key battles and historical context. Currently I am doing all careers and planes based on date to try and emulate that.

I have looked at the mission sets and if you know of one along the lines of what I am looking for, yours may be it, please lead me to them.

I bet more than likely though they require FB+AE+PF so I am stuck until the new IL2 DVD ships. Hmm... the current mission sets may not even be compatible with that version....?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

There were some minor carrier raids in at places such as Wake, Marshall Islands, Gilberts, New Guinea, and Tulagi in February, March, and May, before Coral Sea, and the USAAF was involved in New Guinea in May of 1942 (though no USMC aircraft saw any action between the fall of Wake and the defense of Midway). My True Pacific covers some of them, and I am planning to release a version fixing all the known bugs sometime today or tomorrow. That might be your best bet if you want more early war action.

My interest is tweaked but...

Yeah, it is for the merged version (4.05m)

It is not a mission set, but a mod for DGen (the defauly campaign generator).

I'll tell you what, though, if it is the USMC campaign you are most interested in, if you pm me your e-mail address, I can send you the files for the USMC campaigns, which do not use many ETO objects (and I can edit out the few it does use). It does not add any campaigns between Wake and Midway (since there were not any, historically), however, it does add:

-An SBD-3 career for the USMC (Midway and Guadalcanal)
-Another Wake campaign (the defense against land based bombers which occured before the invasion depectid in the default campaign)
-Adds the F2A-2 as flyable at Midway
-Adds an early 1943 "defensive" campaign over Guadalcanal.

ARGH... I was afraid of that. I am interested in all branches that served and by the sound of your mod on the engine as a whole it seems that is what I am looking for.

I have already played from December 1941 and am now at Midway with all allied careers. Was kinda disappointed to be forced into flying another F4F since I already am doing that with my USN career.

My concern is that here I am all pumped up over the new DVD coming out and smell compatibility problems with what is out there. I am wondering if not going with the original IL2 merged is better in that regard. I hoping you or someone knows if this will be a problem.

On the same token I suppose either merged or DVD I can't use the PF stand alone versions unless I want to have two versions on the system...

Once you get the DVD, you will be able to play any and all campaigns (DGen, DCG, static) ever built. Pacific stand alone lacks several planes and ground objects in the merged version, but the merged has everything that Pacific stand alone has. All you would need a Pacific stand alone version for is if you wanted to play online against other guys with only the standalone version.
