I am the Yngwie Malmsteen of Oleg's Virtual sky. The rest of you are pretty good too.

Yngwie Johan Malmsteen plays the blues:

That's about as bluesy as Euro Dance.

But the guy can shred like no one else.

lol as far as pure shredding goes, I think this guy takes the crown:

The stuff he plays is a technical nightmare to even try to imagine playing but watch in awe as he pulls it off!

Check this shredder out for technique:

My favorite shredder type is a guy named Michael Harris. I've always found Malmsteen's playing to be shallow and pedantic. More about impressing the teeny-boppers than melody and finesse. IMHO, of course.

It never fails to amaze me how people can be impressed by this type of guitar playing. What these clowns are doing is nothing more than essentially practicing scales at a very rapid speed. Difficult? Yeah, but there's absolutely no emotion or "feeling" in their playing. Now, if you want an example of a guitarist who can play as fast as any of these guys AND play with emotion, check out Joe Satriani. My personal favorite would be Angus Young (AC/DC). The guy plays at maybe 1/2 the speed of Yngwie, Satriani, etc., isn't very technical at all, but the sound and bluesy soloes are nothing short of incredible.

I love all 3. I haven't heard any Yngwie stuff since the '80s though.

If the kiddies want to practice their scales, that's fine. Just let them do it where I don't have to hear it. Under headphones in their bedrooms, for instance. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

By all means, but his technique was fun to watch. I like the way he went into
Purple Haze and Crazy Train near the end.

Shredding for the sake of monotonous scales does not do it for me either. I prefer my guitar players with soul, like David Gilmour, for example. Now, there is a guy who does more with less. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Give this a listen. It's the opening track from Michael Harris' Defense Mechanizms CD. A classically trained shredder who has great style, tone and melody. There is a modern excerpt from Mozart's 25th on that CD and a great acoustic ballad. Again, IMHO.

Music, like art, is a subjective thing and each of us have our own tastes, styles, likes and dislikes. I'm thankful for that, as it would be a pretty boring world otherwise.
