What is it? I can't find a simple answer to that question. I'm toying with the idea of creating a server but, geeze, the whole thing is complicated. I've set up dedi servers for other games like Descent and Wings of War but for this game I'm beginning to have doubts. Somebody gave me links to dedicated server software and guides but there seems to be different programs and the guides are several years old. What is compatible with v. 4.04 and v.4.05? Ubi wasn't any help. They have some server software which has no instructions and from what I can tell the program doesn't do anything. Somebody must have figured this all out because HL has a bunch of folks hosting servers.

FBDaemon is a script program that is used to track stats and allow mission-builders to implement victory parameters into their online missions. It was developed by =TgD=Sammie, =TgD=Lunix and (originally) Badbernie. Badbernie is out of the picture at this point but Sammie still passively supporting FBD.

You can get it here: http://www.greatergreen.com/fbd2/

And forum questions/discussion is here: http://www.greatergreen.com/scripts/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

Good luck!

Thank you TgD for your succinct answer. Upon reflection the "Good luck" conclusion is precisely the substance I'm going to need in this sorrowful endeavor. Because I'm beginning to strongly suspect I aint got the brains to bring my server dreams to fruition without countless hours of research, experimentation and undeniable frustration. Oh yeah..., I feel a headache comin' on. I'm going to ponder this a tad more. I'd rather be playin'. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Pardon me if you may have already heard about this, but have you lookd here: http://www.gennadich.com/id/88/
"IL2 Server Commander " (further il2sc) is a standard Win32 program that allows configuring, launching and flexibly controlling of Il2+AEP+PF dedicated server. Moreover it allows management of statistics as well as development of almost any scenario plot. Il2sc is distributed as a number of files that allow fast deployment dedicated server control and statistics unit (il2sc_stat) (to represent statistics you will need Apache web-server)."

It appears like the Russians took the bull by the horns and showed us how the cow eats the cabbage. Yessirreebobdixy! But...waitaminute. Is this server software or some fancified tool that manages the FB or Pacific Fighters server? That's kinda the impression I got. If it's server software than I'm going to jump on it.

I ran into something that was about 400 mb. in size that was server software, can't remember where. I've been all over the web researching this but I can find it again if it's the right stuff, so to speak.

IL2 Server Commander is NOT the server. Like FBDaemon, it's a server controller. Until you download, install, and configure the server, you'll have no use for either of these programs.

The link Tully gave you in your other thread is where to get the Dedicated Server. Here it is again:
http://ftp.ubi.com/us/games/pacific_fighters/dedicated_servers/

The base download is pf_dedicated_server_v204.exe and it is, as you said, 410 megabytes. That is the first file to download if you want to run a dedicated server of any kind. This server is compatible with FB+AEP 2.04 only! If you want to run a server for 4.04m, then you'll have to also download and install the correct patches, and patch the server up to 4.04m. You can find server patches up to 4.04m in that same directory. There is also an instruction file there as well describing the various patches.

Thanks. That link you gave me is the most complete listing of downloads and instructions that I have yet encountered. You mentioned that after patching and configuring I'll be good to go for v4.04. What about v4.05?

The pooch is really going to be screwed when v4.06 comes out. And then BOB'l be out and everybody will be jumpin' through more hoops. That's going to be a topic of umpteen posts. It hasn't even come out yet and it's a topic of endless conversation. I shoulda stuck with the '80's classic arcade flying games like "1943" by Midway.

Yeah, for some reason the 4.05m patch isn't in that directory, and I don't, offhand, know where to find it....no, wait....here it is:

Thanks dbillo. All set. Now I just got to work up my nerve to commit to do the deed.
