Ok to Start

South African UK based Civilian version of the Herc... used for rapid response to oil spillages. ( no Para doors, and fewer windows in the cockpit amongst other differences. )

Nice pictures TT. Is it okay to save your pictures so that i may use them in any future re-paints for FS9/FSX? (Credit will be given to your photo's of course and they will be free repaints for all).

Do you have any photo's of war birds? I seem to recall you mentioned being involved in ground testing a Focke Wulf. Do you have any photo's of that? That would be most appreciated http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Thanks, and any BMI Baby planes would do plus some more russkie jobs flying out of East Mids if possible. Two quick questions, wasn't there an airline called Orion that used to be based at East Mids in the 1980's? You don't have any photo's or know anyone that may have some?

Your photography is magnificent...you DO have the touch of an aviation photog.

I just got a Pentax ist-D, and I love it. got a 100-400 lens for it as well, just need to find some AC to shoot. It uses AA rechargable, and it goes for days on one set of bats.

That cannon is impressive, and your work as well. I did airshow photography for yrs, so Im qualified to comment. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Just got the same camera. I'm confused about which lens to get though. I'm using the crummy 18-55mm for now. The lenses recommended to me by the salesman were in the $1,200.00 range. That's a bit steep for a lens. What model lens are you using? I'm definitely a noob when it comes to photography. I've had mine for two months and I still have the dial set to idiot mode.(green box) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif I did get a nice set of lens filters and a hood though so my pictures look fairly good even with the small lens.

It really depends what you want to use it for, I got 3 lenses with mine, the one you have I.E the Canon EFS 18-55mm, a Canon 28-105mm and a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS .... None of the above are the ultra expensive L range of lenses, and therefore are cheaper... the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS is under $600

I will shoot 6 pictures for you tomorrow at work looking towards an aircraft ( did today then erased em Doh!!! showing min and max zoom on them all, it will give you an Idea of what they do...

reviews of the lenses are here

70 -300 Zoom

http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/canon_70300_456is/index.htm

http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/70-300is/

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=294

what I would say is it performs really well the Auto Focus and image Stabilising really does the business, most of those shots above are hand held using it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif good for wildlife, Airshows etc, if you went for one of them make sure you get the right model as they have 3 round about that price..

The Canon EF 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 II USM (about $200 ish )

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?prod...206&sort=7&thecat=27 (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=206&sort=7&thecat=27)

http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/canon_28105_3545/index.htm

which gives you a greater zoom range and would be good for portraits etc

but as said will take you some pics tomorrow and you can see, will also take you a pic of each lens on the camera if you would like to see that, the larger can be bulky but as a point and shoot the autofocus lenses with image stabilisation do it all for you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
see this

Ok the top picture here was taken today with the 105mm zoom, and the bottom believe it or not is hand held at 300mm, straight up was standing about 15 foot ( for those who only work in metric... that is errm 15ft ) from the little munchers then it was slightly breathed on in photoshop, IE sharpened and cropped..... its not a good photo, in fact its dire, not in focus etc, but that wasn't the point, it allowed me to see if with the aid of a tripod and some macro rings I will be able to take pics of insects etc... as I do love doing them, what stunned me was I could do it with a big zoom lol handheld............. will take the zoom range shots though tomorrow for you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i could do the same with the other lense too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the great links and for going through
the trouble of showing me the shots.
I knew those sales people were just trying to pressure me into parting with my cash. I think I'll go with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS to start with. I got a set of macro lens rings on e-bay although I'm not sure of the quality as I've not tried them yet. I also got a nice tripod so once I get a couple of lenses I'll be ready for some air shows and museums. Again thank you for you're time it's much appreciated. It's easier to tell what I need from looking at your photos. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

let me take some pics for you tomorrow, that way you will see the diffences in zoomlength......... will help you more... but as said the lens although not as well built as the L range is a fraction of the cost and perfoms well in all the tests etc.......... I am happy with it and of note, they do several lenses with the IS on it.... now all I need is a good show to try it out on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Don't get me wrong the L range are the bees knees.. really well built, professional lenses with superior glass etc, but do i need it? well at the moment no, these will do me for the occasional airshow and the one that goes on outside my door day in day out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif...

Now if i was climbing say the side of crazyivans wallet i might need something more substantial.................go in a shop and try it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
