Has anyone had the problem of the deck gun crew engaging targets w/o orders to? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Luckily it was night, and at long range, but when my deck watch sighted a ship and I said engage, the deck gun immediately went into action, TWICE, once against a DESTROYER! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Each time I did not have a deck gun crew assigned so the computer did it on its own.

I've only noticed it with v1.2 never did happen with 1.1.

Really annoying. I have to remove the deck gun crew when I activate a surface torp attack.

Say to your WO that the deck gun should hold it's fire and they will. Otherwise they will always engage the nearest target and fire at will.

I end up having to do that after the fact. The thing is, there isn't any gun crew on deck when I sight a ship. When I click the engage ship button that pops up as a menu, that's when it happens. They immediately engage with the deck gun. Atleast 2-3 rounds are fired before I tell the gun crew to stop.

Does clicking the engage button automatically cause the deck gun to go into action? I never noticed it before.

Oops, there it is there. Without orders you say? You just ordered your crew to engage the target. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Even when there is no deck gun crew assigned? Like I said I never noticed this happening before, but I've only lasted 2.5 patrols.

When you click on 'Engage Target'....that's what it means.....engage target with the deck gun.

I mean, what did you THINK it meant? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

The same applies to your flak gun. When you get the 'Enemy plane sighted' message and click on 'Engage Target', your crew will man the flak gun and start firing.

I just assumed it meant the crew would go to battle stations and await orders to attack. Now that I think about it, it does make sense. Duoh! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I don't like how the deck gun crew's orders work, either.

They remember the orders from your previous engagement. If you had previously told them to fire at will, the next time they come on deck they will open fire immediately- even at faaar distances. As soon as I say "man the deck gun", I am going as quick as I can to the "hold fire" button.

Sometimes, the other orders don't seem to work properly either- or maybe one thing overrides the others. For instance, if I say fire at short range, and aim for the water line- they'll open fire immediately from any range. They know to aim for waterline, but forgot I told them to do it from close range. I just tell them to hold fire and fire at will now, then click aim for waterline or whatever after they start shooting.

Tell your watch officer to hold fire before you send them to the deck gun.

You can also set their range to close only, which should avoid any problems like that.
