I love this game! I'm an offliner (and a fanboy it must be said)for the most part and tend to play a few missions of a campaign and then quit or somehow delete all my campaigns inadvertently. But the joy of this game is that even after months of consistent playing there are still so many campaigns I've never even dipped my toes into, let alone complete. Of course the user-made ones are more interesting (thanks to those who contribute) but personally I enjoy even the generic DGen jobs.

The breadth of Forgotten Battles' campaigns really does open up corners of history I had never thought of, and that, for me, is much more interesting and involving than charging around western Europe in one of the more well-known fronts.

Seeing the variety of aircraft in use is another kick. Currently I'm playing for Finland in a 109-G2.Only a couple of missions in trying to be realistic and not hit refly. To my immense delight, for I am not an amazing fighter, I have managed to get a couple of kills (okay 6 in 2missions if you MUST know http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif). But in the air I see Buffaloes, P-40s, P-36s (that was interesting - two Curtiss fighters going at it) plus all manner of Yaks, Sturmoviks and La's. I know that sooner or later my streak will end in flames and shrapnel but for now I can enjoy it. I'm not really one of those who gets overly immersed in the sim but I have to say this campaign really has me thinking while I'm flying. Who needs BoB?

(Okay, I do, but you get the point. This sim is immense. Enjoy it.)

Your right. It's the best ever, with best ever support. This is why I support Oleg 100%. He puts his best into this sim. Too many US software developers don't put their soul into their product. They simply want to make a buck.

Taylortony,

There are some really good offline campaigns out there, you should try some. Your opponents will always be AI, but some people do a heck of a good job creating atmosphere that you can overlook that - at least I can.

I recomend something that involves bombing or ground attack where the skill (or lack of it) minimizes the impact that the AI hason how the mission unfolds.

It€s the best sim in the world. Like you Flatspin the Il2 series opened up the eastern front reality for me history-wise, and maybe I'm a better man.

I've got into this a lot more than before when I had just borrowed the orginal IL-2 from a friend. The dynamic campaigns make so much difference, because the static campaigns of the original were good once through but were a bit boring to do the exact same missions all over again. It's good to be able to choose your front and plane, and the pilot roster makes you care for your comrades a more than in just a static campaign. Well, at first at least, after too long all your old friends die and the new ones come and go so easily. Maybe this is a slight reflection of what it was like in real life, but then again the effect is probably exaggerated because they don't have the magic 'refly' button.

I now have PF too, which opens a whole new theatre, including the joy and of course frustration of carriers. Now I just have to wait the month or so for AEP to arrive so I can go merged.

Yeah, I actually have PF and AEP installed merged but vastly prefer the stuff from FB. I think the sameness of the aircraft types and the maps put me off PF. The carrier landings are pretty fun to try and I enjoyed Bird_brain's and Icefire's pacific campaigns but generally speaking I'm to be found over in Finland, Leningrad or points east.I really love the maps for these areas too, much more "complete" looking than PF ones.
Cheers.

Glad to join a topic with fellow fun-lovers.

Lots to explore in this sim - offline and online. I tried online for awhile but too much precious time was going towards "technical difficulties" with connection problems, etc. The little time I spent online was fun and I made some good friends but offline gets most of my time.

The IL2 series is a work of art and artists need encouragement so my stance has been and ever will be to encourage the creators of this awesome simulator while leaving criticism to others.

Sure is... After converting from MS-CFS2 and EAW a few years back, IL-2 has taken over completely. I have Never looked back.

Awesome sim, with great detail and fantastic support from the developers and community.

Bugger all to complain about http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

If some of the other WW2 A/C sims out there would have had the support that this one does, who knows, but I love this one....
(think EAW, Screamin' Demons, B17ME, WW2 Fighters, CFS 1,2,3, well you get the picture...)

So much simmin' to do, so little time. I will never get to all the edges with this one.

THE AMAZING, THE FABULOUS, THE INCREDIBLE, THE STUPENDOUS, THE FANTASTIC, THE SUBLIME, IL2: FORGOTTEN BATTLES/ACE EXPANSION PACK/PACIFIC FIGHTERS!!

All together now...

"We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the World"
