View Full Version : Why is landing always such a gigantic cluster

...for the AI. I mean really. Criminy. Can't you just quietly land your f'n plane without 8 go arounds per aircraft. Every mission when we get home it's like the circus just rolled into town. Time to land, cue the circus music.

It's because Oleg & Co. never thought it important to implement realistic landing procedures for the AI. Yeah, a major immersion killer for me as well because it's just sooo f*ng stupid, AI or not http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

If you're building missions yourself what you want to do is not to make them land at all, but rather fly them off the map altogether when the mission is over http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Comeing in from a B-25 mission, everybodys all shot up and I dropped in line and was cleared to land behind number 2, as always tower told the guy behind me,(who was a mile out) to go around!

The AI pilot said "I'm landing anyway", I almost botched the landing from laughing, that was the first time I heard that, and haven't heard it sense. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What does it for me is when I tell the squadron to close on me and to follow me preparatory to making a low level run up to a target. I drop down to nap of the earth and my wingmen slam into the ground while the rest of the squadron float a thousand feet above me alerting the flak to the incoming raid. The AI really interjects "friction" into war!

I bet you meant to say "...cluster F*ck" didn't you..

that is when co-ops really come into their own...they make you want to finish the mission properly and land with your mates...

Something that is unlikely to get fixed, methinks.

Perhaps you should try getting hold of teamspeak and getting in the air with some friends. You can even use tactics and everyone can land as well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

How many coops do you figure implement realistic ATC too? That'd be awesome, to fly into your homebase's airspace and have to ask permission to enter a pattern for landing.

Would suck for the guy who has to sit there for the whole mission but then that might be a good thing for someone who dies to do.

Well at least the AI tries to keep to some kind of landing procedure, unlike 99% of online fliers and i`ve never seen it once in a co op. Give the AI some leeway at least, it doesn`t have much to play with.

Really? Never ever witnessed this myself, or even heard of it before! Still full of surprises this game, even after all these years...

I remember a friend and I coming back one flight in Falcon 4: Allied Force and the airspace was pretty busy. We were put in a stack at around 15k and as the planes below us landed, we were told to descend another 1000 feet untill we were finally vectored in to land.

I was great seeing all these other flights below us, and above us too as new flights joined the stack. All manner of birds, F15's, 16's, c130's, A10's.

Most people probably wouldn't like taking the time to land properly and would push to the front but we lapped it up.

I think it is just one of the RAAF voice samples that has that.

It's a BIG problem for carrier landings since there's only one "runway"! I usually will land on one of the taxiways when the pattern is clogged for conventional airfields. I hear you. It is very annoying. Especially when your ride is "banged up" and misbehaving!

I've noticed in online games that there is a semi-agreed upon setup of taking off from taxi ways, leaving the runway clear for landers. If its just the concrete pads, generally people land going towards the parked planes so that they can be seen *shrugs*
