Greetings all,

Just wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with Tiger Direct? I'll be in the market for a newer PC this summer, and was browsing their site. Some of the prices for AMD based machines looked pretty good.

Regards,
Scott

I can't speak from any personal experience with Tiger but I've read others who've been satisfied.

I would like to make a shameless plug tho for one of our members, Hunter82, long time Tech Mod here who has an excellent site at http://www.magnum-pc.com/. He has all the latest components to put together any capability gamer machine. His reputation is excellent, from giving knowledgable advice for particular needs, to guaranteeing everything leaving his business.

Very good experience with Tiger Direct. Magnum PC is a great place to purchase components as well, and it is owned by our very own Hunter 82.

About 2 years ago, I bought several MSI motherboards from Tiger Direct. I liked dealing with them.

Another option is Monarch Computers which I have not tried but I see good things on the computer hardware webboards...They can do pure mail order which many Online places don't do.

Monarch ~> http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv

Browse around the tech boards and see what folk are doing.

There is always Newegg and ZipZoomFly. I've had good experiences w/ both as well as MagnumPC.

Tiger Direct, Newegg, ZipZoomFly are all respected retailers.

About a year and two months ago, right around the holidays, I was building a PC for my brother and he was buying the parts ( a lot of them ) from Tiger. They sent him the wrong processor to go with his motherboard ( was supposed to be the new pinless Intel processor ). They sent one with pins that did not go in the socket at all. He went through hell to get the right one, but we finally did get it. Their customer service/tech support is only mediocre if you have a problem, in my opinion.

We have a TigerDirect retail outlet here in the Chigago area that I've bought components from. The folks there that I've dealt with have been knowledgeable and helpful. I can say the same about Magnum PC via mail-order. I haven't been over there in a few months though, so I'm not sure why their rating isn't higher in the link steve_v provided. In my experience, either/both should give you good service. They have slightly different inventories however, so check their web sites and call them up to find out what they carry, and to get advice on choices as well.

Thanks again to all who provided info/ideas for me!

I won't be building my own system...not enough of a geek for that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'm kind of looking for a re-furbished system or just a mini-tower (nicely filled with goodies, thank you), as I don't have to get a monitor, etc...since I have all that already. Hopefully by mid summer I'll be able to purchase a more powerful machine.

What *really* got me thinking about it was that beautiful screenshot of the Ju88 cockpit that is going to be included in the Battle of Britain! Plus I'd like to be able to crank up the effects a little bit more in the IL2 series.

Scott
