Well I have had 1946 now for 3 weeks and these are the pros and cons (as I see them)...

Pro's
- Awesome Gameplay
- Thanks to Misson4today ini Edit) Superb Gfx
- Imersive Gameplay
- Sence of pride and achievement when you take off, shoot something down and land on Realistic for the first time after hours of great reading (pdfs provided by links from this community) without any hopping, if you are new to the game like me my only advice is read, fly, read some more then fly some more, it will come and when it does its awesome.
- Thx to sight range explained video by Dart.
- Great atmos inflight authentic music (various sources)
- By the time SOW comes I will be able to fly decent http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Cons....
- Girlfriend thinks I am dead
- Go to bed (eventually) thinking of what I should have done and lie there for 2 hours planning 2morrows corrective "flightplan"
- Went to a Gypsy and she said she could see the money flying out my bank to buy half of the Siatek site kit in the next month.
- Work now thinks I am an alcoholic as I arrive with red slits where my eyes used to be from lack of sleep
- In game Engine sounds a little lame (minor point in a great game)

If you are reading this and a noob to this game (like me) stick with it. Its superb but just beware of the hours in your life that vanish quicker than bottle of JD at an AA meeting when you are learning to fly it correctly.

Enjoy

Good write up.
How about your background? Did you have something to do with aviation or WW2 before coming across IL-2?

Yeah sorry I should have included some of my BG:

I am a WW2 freak, cant pass a book or doc or film without buying it, on a PC game basis usually ground attack stuff like HD2 and GRAW+(2). I used to play all the CFS series and remeber about 8/10 years ago whatever it was discussing with my friend which was best Aces High or CFS, then I had all kinds of GFX prblems on my old rig with CFS3 locking up and causing me all kinds of problems, so gave it up and my sindwinder just got lost over time. THEN I started going to airshows again (at Duxford UK, where they filmed BOB '69 film)and decided I was going to get back into flight sims and bought PF and a new SW2 after a week I loved it with no GFXs probs that I had with CFS3 and my faith was restored. On the advice of Bearcat99 I bought 1946 and here we are 3 weeks later....hope you havnt slit your wrists yet reading this boring cr*p but you did ask. lol

Bearcat has done it again, bringing them into the fold - good to see!!
Nice post, Carl1871. I wish you many hours of happy IL2'ing ahead.
(I've given up counting, but recently tried to work out roughly how much time I've spent with IL2, and it comes to well over 5000 hours since 2001!)
As a minor side-effect of this, I have not managed a lasting relationship over this time!
My last girlfriend thought I'm 'a bit crazy.' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Welcome aboard Mister C. Misery LOVES company. I'm happy to see you're enjoying it. I too have laid awake after missions going over my pluses and minuses begging for a chance to get it right the next day. Loved your write up. Thanks again for sharing.

Welcome to the madness sir, we hope your stay here is enjoyable! This place is kind of a support group for WW2 flight addicts like us.
