a few days back someone started a thread about
wich ww2 games they enjoyed most in the past
and many mentioned Hidden and Dangerous.

after someone said the game was been given away as a free download I decided to see what everyone was talking about.
free download:
http://www.fileplanet.com/131330/130000/fileinfo/Hidden-&-Dangerous-Deluxe

I have to say after reading the manual and played for a bit this game kicks ***.
is such a well thoughout game in such detail.

I totally recomend it.

the game is action/strategy and is simple to figure out. but one should read the manual just to see how well designed the game is.

if you dont like reading PDF manuals you can download some free text reader like readplease
http://readplease.com and simply have the manual read aloud to you.

thats how i do that these days http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's the best WW2 shooter I've ever played. Infinite variety, little or no scripting, so immersive; I still remember the opening level in every detail!

There was a sequel, H&D2, and an expansion to the sequel, H&D2:Sabre Squadron. These are also well worth looking out; they're a couple of years old now and probably to be found in the bargain bins.

If I had to pick a top two of all the games I've ever played, it would be the H&D series and the IL2 series.

The fact H&D is now a free download makes me feel somewhat old, great find though!

Papotex, if you shop around a bit, you 'll probably find Hidden and Dangerous 2 along with its addon.

Totally agree that H&D and its sequels were superb games. For me H&D2 had more atmosphere, probably because the graphics were so much better, but I loved it when a well executed plan came together and the whole team survived. The combination of a tactical planning view with first person action view was sheer genius and H&D gave birth to the whole WW2 tactical FPS genre in a stylish way.

H&D2 is a tad more realistic in that you can't carry 17 different guns at one time in H&D2. The AI can be a bit dumb at times. A WW2 mod for Armed Assault (new update of Operation Flashpoint) would be welcome, I think.

+1 to this.

COD, COD2, Band of Brothers, although similarly themed, as FPS's, they are scripted - your movement through the playing 'level' is limited, there is generally no more than one or two ways you are 'pathed' to play a mission, and you can't deviate from the set course to complete the level alternatively as you wish.

I love H&D2 .. immersion is pretty good, you've got a squad to command. AI can be pretty dumb at times, but overall it's fun. The key is, you can set about from various directions to complete a mission test, you can choose the general pathway or alternative approaches to complete the level. It's one of the few games to last on my HD, next to IL2. I don't play it often now, but every once in a while i fire it up (along with Sniper Elite) to get my post-work aggressions out http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

H+D was such a great game! I had so much fun playing that as opposed to even the newer WW2 FPS shooters that are out today. I liked the fact that you could plan your mission from a tactical standpoint. You could approach your objective from any direction with little scripting. It was (is) the most open ended FPS that I have ever played and from that aspect alone I have enjoyed it so much. Of coarse there are many other features in the game that make it so immersive to play as well. I highly recommend it. I am trying to remember what year that was released. It has been a quite a few years now. I did get the demo for H+D 2 and that is very good also but I never did buy it but I certainly should have.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

H&D 1 was/is amazingly tense from what I remember. There is quite a sense of achievement when you complete the missions, unlike a lot of shooters.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

the game is over 5 years old but it was great

some of the levels were amazing
there was one where your team was split up and had to find each other
and one where you had to defend against 2 tanks and at least 60 soldiers

Now I've got the computers to be able to get a multiplayer game going

Is this H&D really that good?
Is it like going from IL-2 4.04 to MS FS 2000(I've got the Naval Training Command add-on,which makes it 'temporarily tolerable',but still junk compared to IL-2.
Or,would it be really decent to an IL-2 & Call of Duty 2 fan?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Lyrics from Naked Raygun's "Rat Patrol".
"What we need to take control,we could use the Rat Patrol. What's that coming over the dune?...
Chasing the halftracks across the sandflats, got a nice pine box,for that desert fox, machine guns blaring, and Arabs staring wondering why,the Westerners are there. It's the same old story, and it'll happen again."
