As this will be the last patch, could I please ask for just one more resolution option of 1680x1050, which is widecreen resolution.

It's a small ask, but as this will be the last chance for IL2 and the future, please can you give it your consideration.

Thanks, MP.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

You allready can use this resolution in the game.
Just change the conf.ini parameters accordingly.

And remember to set - SaveAspect=0

IL-2 series will not have wide screen support. In the mean time you can do this:

[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

And you will get that:

If you can turn your screen (pivot), do it and use something like 1200x1920 or 1050x1680 for resolution.

http://home.arcor.de/eldur/bilder/916_1.jpg

You will see *more* (up and down - which helps a lot in combat) instead of less - as the angle from the left and right borders keeps constant. A wide screen in normal config will have some of your view chopped off from the top and the bottom.

It's stuff like that that ticks me off! The whole reason there's no widescreen support is oleg was afraid of people having an unfair advantage of seeing more airspace online. Yet look, you can turn your monitor on it's side and see FAR more than if widescreen was supported, and without all the little glitches you have when using the conf settings ivan showed! This is why widescreen, udp online, and others should be implemented in the final patch, because people are finding ways to do what's feared and they do it worse than if the rest of us were just free to enjoy the little perks of widescreen and guages on another monitor.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Everyone should have two to support monitors #5-8 on your computer. Without 8, you can't get an even tan without going outside.

Umm wide screen and the view above is more realistic then default. Just think about it for one minute. And lighten up Francis. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

No, I don't think so. The reason is much more simple.
All the view system in FB is based on FOV, each "zoom" correspond to a defined angle (from 120? to 30?).
So whatever your monitor size, the display will be the same FOV, so will show only what your virtual point of view could see in this angle.

This is a conceptual choice that was done around 6 years ago, long before any "widescreen" existed.
It works actually perfectly with widescreen... (as for any screen size), it just allways display the same horizonatal angle.

I tried this setting to 1680x1050 on my screen but all I get is 2 black bars either side of the display instead of it being stretched. Not sure if it's running at the higher res or not, but those black bars are annoying.

Anyone else have this and know of how to get rid of it?

Sure, open your conf.ini file, and be sure the window sections looks like this

[window]
width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=1
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

If not, edit it.

After you've edited it, don't open Il2setup or the graphic settings of the games.... or it will return back to the default values.

You will still get the black bars in the menues... but as soon you're in game, you will enjoy your full screen.

If you haven't done so already, make sure that your desktop resolution is set the SAME as your config file. Mine did not work until this was done.

The menu system on IL2 will have the black bars but you will be full screen when flying.

Just in case this point was missed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Enjoy.
