My thanks to Platypus for that link to the cute, if not UBISoft self serving fragchick's site.

Some folks over there expressed an interest in learning more about IL-2 and I've described it as best as I know how. of course, no matter how well you know this game, you'll miss at least 1 or 2 major points, so wonder over to this thread and comment as well...

Promote the game because you know for sure UBI won't!

Ahh, the fragdolls probably throw away this game, if they ever bought it. They probably try to squeeze one eye to look through the off-centre gunsights http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well the Frag dolls might be into FPS but a lot of the girls that visit them might not be http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif There are also a lot of female gaming sites. Plus keep in mind that flight simming has it's own stigma attached to it. Some flight simmers are like trekies. They take things a bit too seriously and too far. So try to act.... normal is we can http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Try to hook them into roleplaying some of the famous Russian women pilots.

They might be cool with a "White Rose" skin.

OR pink spitfires......http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pink Spitfires? Get your asbestos suit on, my friend!

I think if you want to get your woman involved, just have a skin made with your picture all over it. Can that be done..say a photo where the insignia should go and your name on the sides? I know my wife would turn into uber-ace to see me burst into a ball of fire. But then again, she'd kill me for real after crashing and burning a few times herself while learning to get off the ground. Maybe this is a bad idea.

"She's a natural..."

Natural pilot you mean ? Not physically natural. Although, that might not be so bad. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

"And a hottie to boot"

Need proof. Post some screenshots ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

LuckyBoy--

I disagree with the narrowness of your premise. Generally speaking, we should be trying to promote the game to EVERYBODY, women included. I mean it has aspects of history, competition, teamwork, creativity (skins, movies and storytelling), learning a skill (flying, albeit virtually), etc. These are draws that _anyone_ would like if we could present it to them.

We should be increasing the ranks because it is so much FUN.

Just my opinion.

Hi,

It's obvious why there are so few women. "Betty" was excluded http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Cheers,

Very good idea of an initiative.Hopefully we can make it a good promotion cuz the game really needs it.I,however, would focus on promoting BoB now when it is quite early to let ppl know something BIG is coming up.

They're probably a bit scared of women as well, so they would naturally want to do whatever it took to keep them at arm's length.

You want to promote flight sims to women, take away every baby girls barbie dolls and give her toy airplanes! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't know about sims but in real life at college I know plenty of fine looking college girl pilots. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

If I didn't have a steady woman by my side, I wouldn't even know what IL2 was. I'd be hunting and playing!

Well the reason I said that is because flight sims can be a bit hard to get into. I remember when I first started to play Falcon 4. There was a thread about 4 pages long making fun of me because I asked what an ECM pod was. So I never went back to a F4 forum. There are even some comments here when people ask very basic questions. It seems dumb to us but to them it's a valid question and making fun of them will just scare them away. Plus some people get into Flight Sims too much. My friend is in a Virtual Airline and they made jackets and hats and everything.

Interesting. I never considered forums for women gamers. It could be interesting having the ladies flying the 'unfriendly skies'.

But pink planes.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh..stone me... four pages? That transends mere 'dumb' and falls into a 'High Functioning Autistic' catagory.

Critisizing people for not knowing something is the last word in being pathetic. And the term 'n00b'? It makes me cringe to even write it.

Imagine someone's walking along the pavement in your home town and some passer-by asks them for directions. Is someone honestly going to say;

"Ha! You don't even know where Arcacia Avenue is you n00b! Begone from our town or we'll gather up a lynch mob!"

Yep, they'd be a certifiable whack-job alright, almost certantly with non-existant self esteem - hense the natural fear of women. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Yeah it started when I asked what an ECM pod was. I never played flight sims before and was just getting into airplanes in general. Then it went into the whole if you don't know don't play the game go play mario and all kinds of dumb things. So like I said I never went bad
