At first I have to say that the new forum is a major enhancement. The categories are well selected, the design is tasteful, the handling is convenient. Laudable!

But in spite of that I have a big problem with posting messages. I use tabbed browsers (all open sites are displayed in a row with names to switch quickly) and therefore the popup, which opens by new-topic, is a problem for me: some browsers won't display it at all (although without any activated build in popup-blocker); some other browsers wait a long, long time until they open the popup-window (if more site-windows are open I have to wait even longer).

Is someone here who have a workaround for this special problem?

not currently, some versions of UBB allow it to be here.

The Beta Forums didn't have this problem.

Hopefully this will be taken care of as they add more to the board.

I'm finding a LOT of things missing here IMO... like I can't put html in my messages..

and there's some weird groupings of forums.. prologue and tech support are together, whatever.

I am not real sure if I like this layout or not yet. Its not too bad, I guess it will just take some time to get used to.

Interesting with the popups.
It seems to be an old-ish concept.
I've always favored the "one application - one dialog" MDI school of things.

I agree with you. The beta forums have had more features. And especially not the popup problem.

I hope they will fix that.

I have a solution but its from a different direction. I know a way to help you get rid of the stupid pop ups.

1. First turn off MS messanger. You will find that messenger will let pop ups through onto your computer.

2. Second, get lavasofts adware/spyware remover. Most pop ups come from spyware on your computer and will keep the pop ups coming. As for my computer, i havent had a pop up in over a year, and i dont even use any pop up killers.

3. Make sure you do not sign up for any 3rd party adds, dont sing up for things you really dont need, and stop and think about the web site your going to befor letting they give you a cookie.

So if you get rid of the pop ups, then you will not have a problem of the extra window.

Also be sure to clean out your temp internet files, cookies, and ofline content just to make sure and often.

What broswer are you using? I'm using Mozilla Firebird, and it has no problems popups. I believe I have it set to only open popups if I'm clicking on the link or something like that.

Also im useing a antivirus program that also helps stop unwanted things from getting through to. But the main thing is to get rid of the nasty spyware.

At work there was a computer that i had cleaned out, and it had 164 spy ware tags/files/reg keys that i was able to clean out. And i havent heard back from my fellow employee on if any pop ups came back. So i was successful on excercising the puter. And i saved the day again.

Thank you, that was a very good idea. I've just tried it in the new firebird release and it is very fast now! And I discovered a tab plugin which works with the mozilla 1.3 release. This plugin makes it possible to open even the popup windows in a new tab. With that plugin I can stay with my tab browser style and use this forum.

By the way, before I used the IE-based Slimbrowser.

I use IE6 and have Zone Alarm Pro installed. I can disable the pop ups in Zone Alarm and I have no problem whatsoever with them.

Functionality will be added back in as we go. Display names are top priority, I think, but since we wanted to get everyone off of Lithium as fast as possible, it isn't ready with the launch of the new boards.

HTML is something that will not be returning. You can use the UBB Code buttons at the top of the post window to create HTML-like code to modify your messages. I'll probably be writing up an FAQ on how to use UBB Code in a day or two, unless one of the other Mods beats me to it.

Keep in mind you guys aren't even supposed to be here yet. Things aren't completely organized the way they will be when the new forums launch officially.

I kind of like the popup for replying in -- it lets you check the whole thread, copy & paste from it, and generally be more context-sensitive.

What I'm not so crazy about is the "thread rating" thing... I think forum rating systems are, well, overrated http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nice that we can in principle have custom avatars now... but I put in a URL, and it's not showing. I wonder if there's a size restriction?

I think they need to change the color of this forum. The color is just to flat for some reason. It has no feeling or action. Why not darker colors to make us feel more like where in a cavern, but not this color. Plus it reminds me to much of the old forum.

So lets get a new color please.

Interesting... I added an avatar to my profile but don't see it either, though it does appear when viewing my actual profile. I'll talk to the UbiFolks tomorrow about that one.

found a way to get rid of the popup ... just use the little yellow quick reply button instead of the reply button.
It does a littel Java popup but it remains modal to the parent browser. no UBB or smiley shortcuts ... but no extra popup http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As for color, lots of UBB forums let you choose a color scheme, so maybe they'll do that for us -- match your avatar!

I actually like this scheme, and it matches (spoiler) Yeesha's T-shirt.

Ah, this rocks socks. *dances*

Now I can get an avvy and all kinda stuffs... and post my li'l heart out. Maybe this way I can avoid the hundred million *****SPOILERS***** that pop up everywhere, and just get to the meat of things. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just another idea. The forum topics are listed in the order of last post. Could it be arranged that you can also choose to order by no of views or replies? I sometimes find that to be a nice selection criterion.
