Well i was curious about knowing wich plane is most used. So... state your favorite plane and why you love him so much x)

Currently i love the LA-7 , its maneuvreble and i well gun-powered, and i usually fly I-16 i love those green dots flying all over the place =D its a really cute plane to fly, of course it doesnt have much Engine power , but it works if people dont start running away xP

german scaring looks, and just everything about it...

mossie, wooden wonder http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

il2, symbol of russian resistance, and crude but effective construction. not even snow, -40c, little food and shelter, and a factory with a open roof could stop the russians producing il2's http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

IL-2, like P1ngu666 said, and it's as it's the original 'round here.... and as it's a great thing for ground pounding....

Spitfire, as it look soooo good... as the English say (said?), "any plane that looks good, flies good" (or something like that)

Have fun!

Oh, and the Boeing P12E, also as it also looks good, and I've never seen anything on PC that simulates it....
And the Hurricane, be sure. As for being developed just in time, and it's heroic role in the Battle of Britain, and it's development into the 'Can-opener' (2x40mm!)

i tried the Hurricane but its so slow turning and manouvering... how come lots of people like it? >_>
even Little donkey makes faster turns and rolls and whatever xP (Little donkey = I-16)

My favourite is the TB3, because of flak, and the drama of bringing it home...
(if that makes sense)

Love flying the Gladiator as well, (but not well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif )

I have always liked the german 109, even before this sim. In cfs2 I used to collect versions of it, and I liked it in EAW too.

First of all, in this sim I can shoot with it and hit something better than in other craft, and I have the most time in it and can fly it closer to the edge than others.

Then, being a life-long mechanic/engineer sort of person with an intuition these things, the germans always made machines that appeared to be art. Not that they were always physically beautiful, but they just seem to be a labor of love. I had a friend that was a mechanic for the germans in WWII. Until his death a year and a half ago he had a diploma on his wall with a big Swastika on it. He could do anthing with metal, make it jump and perform as he wished, with welding, machine work, sheet metal, casting, you name it. He was the embodiment of what I am talking about but cannot say. Kraftwerk, metal-art, not good not bad, but just right and just enough to do the job.

The german cars and motorcycles and cameras show this, and you get the same feeling for the german aircraft too. S!

Mustang
T-Bolt
Warhawk
Corsair
Lightning
P-39
I-85
109 all variants
La-5n
Spitfire all variants

After the first 3 they are in no particular order. It all depends on my mood and the mission. I like them all equally.

p-61 Nothing compares.
a-26 Its almost as good as the p-61 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
ki-61 It was my favorite when I played warbirds. It can outmaneuver the majority of foes and it has decent speed in its day.
p-40 Its a classic and it looks good too.
me-262 cause so much can go so wrong so quick and when you make it back after that happens its a real thrill. Especially if you bring it home with an engine totally missing.
fw-190 How can you not like a fighter with so much firepower?
bf-110 Its like an axis p-38 with a tailgunner, complicated and hard to fly well, but its versatile, packs quite a punch, got good survivability (two engines), and well flown it can really surprise opponents.

I'm closest to Badsight's opinion on matter. Another words, if I assemble my 'list' of favourites in game, it would most probably contain majority of planes..

Of course there are some that I actually prefer over others, but that is mainly because they were my favourites in beginning, so I have learn to fly them best.(read: they never surprise me while playing with them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif).

The P-40 is the all time champion. Will never stop loving it. E/M/N variants more than the B/C though.

Bf-109E, a sweet lookin BoB/North Africa aircraft. With the desert skins looks even better. And i prefer the 2 cannons to the 1 nose cannon in later variants.

Bf-110, I get a surprising amount of kills with it, both with the rear gun and the forward firing Mk 108's/Mg 151's. They make quite a combo, and when you need to it can dive quite quickly to the deck.

Gladiator, always a biplane lover, and this thing is without a doubt the easiest thing to fly in the game. It is literally impossible to stall in it, I tried for about 10 minutes with no result. It can outturn everything, including the "dreaded" Zero.

I like the Spit Mk1, those 8 .303's would be fun to play with. Not a fave though.

Think thats bout it

Spitfire: sleek, deadly, beautiful, the all time classic prop fighter. Constantly upgraded and refined through the war from the MkI all the way through to Mk 22, I love them all. From low alt versions with clipped wings and cropped blowers that gave 190s a hard fight to stripped down, tip lengthened, high-alt versions that intercepted Ju-88Ps above 42,000 feet. Different engines, radiators, rudders, armament, wings, gunsights, airframes, elevaors. The Spitfire was a work in progress and the more I see it the more i love it.

Typhoon: A mean and manacing looking bird. It had a boxers shoulders, a Hollywood chin and a punch like an enraged gorilla. Between the 4x Hispanos, the 2000 lb bomb and the RP, its tearingly fast speed on the deck and the rugged airframe it ruled the roost between 0 and 10,000 feet until its younger brother arrived. Still, the Tyffie knocks the Tempest off the perch because it was a ground pounder and I suck at that flitty, flitty A to A stuff.

FW 190A serise: blunt, brutal and dangerous. Anything called the 'butcher bird' you have to love. Dominated its initial opponents, was always a handle and had everyone scrabbling to play catch up. 4 cannon, 2 MGs, big old bombload, speed to burn and just magnificent lines. Probably the fiercest looking radial of all time.

P-38: Voted the 'plane they would most want to meet in combat' by LW PoWs. Still, something about the lines of the P-38 speak to me. It has that 30s pulp sci-fi feel to it. The chrome metal prototype should of been test flown by Buck Rogers, preferably over the surface of an Alen planet. Twin booms and a central pod, gracefully fared nacells, that massive rear elevator, more bells, whistles and switches than a normal pilot could count let alone operate, it just looks the part. Concentrated armament, great range and a wonderfully chequred operational history mean that it will always remain something of an enigma.

The Fw 190 is my favorite fighter.

Why? Because of its lethal looks, its outstanding performance, its technical superiority over other designs, and the way it proves that turning really doesn't win battles! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I also love the later versions of the P-40, like the E and onwards. It looks like a true fighter! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I like most of them but my favorites in FB/PF are:

P47 - Fast and durable and looks the part too.
FW190 - Tough, agile, great fire power, every other plane seems slow and unresponsive compared to the 190's.
P38 - Love the speed and firepower!
P40 - The most fun you can have with your clothes on.
BF109F - almost as good as the P40http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The two planes I would like to see the most which might appear:
Spitfire XIV - Its got mojohttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Tempest V - unbeatable speed and firepower, the British FW190.

Growing up in the UK in the 60s/70s surrounded by the mythology of the BoB it had to be the Hurricane or the Spitfire, & I chose the Hurri. Something about it's underdog status compared with the Spit appealed.

In game it's the Hurri 2c (love the 4 Hispanos),the P-51 or the Zero - just find them the most fun to fly.

Hmmm... let's see...

1) Douglas DC-3

Well, who _doesn't_ love the Gooney Bird???

2) Avro Lancaster

Heavy metal!!! SOOOOO f**king Mot├┬Ârhead that even Lemmy would fly her http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

3) IL-2 Sturmovik

The Flying Tank. 'nuff said.

4) Bell P-39 Airacobra

Sleek and futuristic, w/ some sizable firepower thrown in too. Can be challenging to handle, but that only adds to the excitement!

5) Yakovlev Yak-3

A thoroughbred that's built to GO!!! One of the $exiest fighters ever IMHO http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

6) Messerschmitt Bf-110

Miss M's pretty, slim & swift isn't she? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

7) Bristol Beaufighter

Looks good in a quirky way & packs a punch. Now, what else could a pilot ask for???

8) LaGG-3

Sturdy, dependable, easy to handle & has an optional 23mm. VYa nose cannon to _really_ tell the seven thousand names of God to your enemies!

9) Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15

Yep - a post-WWII beauty this one, but still oooooh so cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

10) Airbus A380

OK, so shoot me. But I still like this plane. And who said size doesn't count huh??? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

FW190 above all (all variants) - fast, deadly & evil-looking. I'm still trying to master this awesome bird but I don't think I ever will.

Mig3U is IMO the most interesting Russian crate & it is very similar to the 190 in its handling.

P-40 is very fun to fly too - especially vs IJA planes.

F-4 Phantom - err - ooops lol

Overall we have a lot of FW's BF109's Spitfire's and P-40's (38's) we gots a few migs too and a few Biplanes.

Im currently flying the LA-7 and **** that plane fits me O_O i really love it somehow he does what i want ^_^;
I can beat ACE BF109's and FW's so easily it gets boring, after a few maneuvers im on is tail a boom... wing off...

the quickest battle i think was against a BF109, NO head-on, slight turn, and boom wing off, must have taken less then 5 minutes =D

High altitude escort, low alt fighter bomber.

After that, the Typhoon. It just looks like death on the wing.

Fw 190 D13, rare, esoteric, sleeker than the Dora 9 and would probably have been very potent if produced in sufficient quantities. I also like the history of the surviving example thats currently now in Seattle (I think).

La-7 is deadly opponent down low, but above 3-4.000 metres it looses its breath, it is really easy target up there. And, yes, like Fherathras said, try that online, offline AI seems to like turn&burn more than Boom&Zoom (and that is what Bfs and Fws were built for http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

109F-4: Best looking 109 of the bunch and when I'm in it it just feels like home. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

P-40E: No plane comes close in terms of looks imo. I also love it's temperamental handling and wicked roll-rate.

190A-6: I'd choose the A-5 but I like the extra ammo of the outboard MG-151/20. Of course if we finally get the missing MG shells I would have died and gone to heaven.

For looks: P-40B/C (that rocket shaped nose is too cool)

For entertainment in a dogfight: I-16 (fighting without negative Gs)

Favorite Axis: Bf-109G (I like the look and the gauge set)

Favorite Allied: P-47D with bubble canopy (once an underdog razorback, now a threat)

and with the La-7 i have to lure every "High-Altitude Fighter" down so i can take them, yes its true that La-7 sucks abouve 3k meters, thats why we (la-7 pilots) have to use other tactics ^_^;

ill try to fly BF109 after mastering the La-7 =) its never too much mastering other planes =)

In-game:
109K. Climbs like a jet, has a 1-pass/kill weapon, sound agility. ...****inf oil splatter and concrete elevators...

190A-8/9. Staggering roll rate and devestating firepower. D-9 swaps speed for the firepower and looks.

Spit IX. Laser Hispanos, great agility, lovely handling, and a supercooled engine.

Yak9U. Like a Spit, but:
+No blackout in h/s turns
+faster
-cr@p firepower

P51D. The only decent US offering in IL2. Thoroughbred handling, speed, K-14 gunsight.

RL:

P-40 (just looks cool)
P-38 (I second the 'Buck Rogers' post)
Sea Hornet/Beaufighter/Me410
Seafury

Bf109-G2 - it looks sleek and deadly and when I was learning to fly in IL-2 ( um, I mean - beginning to learn to fly, since I'm still not much cop http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif ), it proved to be an infinitely forgiving plane.

Gladiator is good too, but the I16 has a certain essence that drags it high on my list.

Ki61 also excellent.

Bearcat, I have no idea why/how you like the P51 - it seems impossible to use.
P38, now, that seems to be more than useful too. Nothing quite like taking out a 262 in it.

If I had to say, I would say almost anything Luftwaffe or USAAF. I've always been interested in the massive air wars over Europe, so I've always taken a liking to 109's 190's P-51's 47's and 38's mainly!

They are awesome fighters

Its called convergence, its the point where the bullets meet...for instance on the Spitfire with 2xHispano cannon and 4x.303's i have the cannon set at 350 and the .303's set at 225(a less powerful armament)...try adjusting yours, you'll see a noticable improvement in your kill ratio, especially if you have it still set at the default setting of the game, which i think is 500...heres a better explanation of it<<~CONVERGENCE~>> (http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_031a.html)...Good luck http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Ok here we go:

The good:

Bf109-K : Fast, unmatched in climb and with a plasma howitzer in the nose :]. This is the breakfast of champions

I-153 Chaika : The best ''crapplane'' by far and deadly to those caught flying slow.

La series and the better Yaks : fast, very manoverable and with the excellent russian guns, they are the knifefighter's planes. Only flaw is that they are rubbish at higher speeds (especially the Yaks) and amongst the slowest maximum speed in a dive.

The hurricane: Fluys like a butterfly, stings like a bee...

The bad:

Spitfire : not too bad, but I hate its roll rate. The russian planes fit me better for dogfights.

The 109-f2 : Due to its puny armament.

The brewster with that telescope: Seriously, what were they thinking?

The Mig3 variants: Slow, clumpsy, not very manoverable, they begin to shudder at 550 km/h. The object viewer says they fly best at high altitudes. I am not convinced.

The ugly...

The FW 190 series (not the dora) : The AI can barrel roll around me like a new sattelite and can sidestep, roll and turn unter my nose in no time and easily blast me. Whenever I try that, I end spinning in the air or in flaming pieces. I know that people use it as hit and run online but I dont feel like running for 10 minutes to get one kill.

The P47 : What do you need all those guns when you cant aim them? It is fast and very tough (one of the few things that can shrug off the Kunfurst howitzer) but fluys like an lead duck. Very fun to fly and useful for jabo, otherwise it is just a target.

The Ki43 : Manoverability on par with the biplanes but what can you do with those peashooters? It is fun to fly but has limited use.

The Hurricane MkII C is my favorite. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif I've taken off more wings with those 20 mm cannons than any other plane in the game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Oh and lets not forget the Zero, any version, although they lost preformance in later models.

Hi,

Favourite planes in the game?

FW190A: 'If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW..er..FW' Good looks, high speed, fantastic roll, good firepower which may just get a whole lot better in 4.0 and toptastic high speed manoeverablity & by far the most satisfying kills when you pull off a blind, high deflection shot.

Me262: Virtually untouchable if flown correctly and equally at home blasting fighters and bombers out of the sky or dropping bombs on nasty foreign types.

P47: Like the 190, it's a team plane. Decent firepower, doesn't light up like a christmas tree (like the 190) and it can carry some useful ordinance.

Zero: the climb is excellent and the weaponry isn't to be sniffed at, either. No wonder those 'cat pilots had their work cut out when they first met these in combat prior to getting some real tactics sorted out.

109G2: The only 109 worthy of mention because it climbs well and hits hard. Yes, it's an early war UFO but no worse than some others of the same time frame.

110: Fantastic cockpit for that short time that you'll be looking at it prior to having to vacate it with your parachute pull cord already unravelling.

Mig3: Fast (even though it's nearly disintegrating at the cruise speed of the 190), surprisingly capable and not bad firepower. The padded seat reminds me of a smoking chair so I always fly it with a crushed velvet jacket and a pipe.

Yak3M. Flown this more often of late and it's sturdy and a bit more credible than others from the Saturn V late war Yak stable. Not much ammo but who needs it when you can smoke a 109 by just looking at the trigger button?

Cheers,
Norris

All sorts of Bf109s: They just look so evil and mean - sort of fit my style. They are also very fast and climby for their specific year (possible exception the G6). Firepower could be better though!

FW190D9: Because its a real beauty, fast, climby and agile at high speeds. The plane that girls dig - not only because of the "long-nose" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

P38: Because I like the twin-boom look and its got an outstanding payload to take with...

Ki61: Also a beauty and one of the few mid-war Japanese planes that can hold their own in a dogfight

Fw 190A-8

The basic 190, doesn't excel in anything. A good plane to train in - if you succeed in it, you will suceed in any 190. Besides, nobody calls you a noob when you fly one. Good for E management discipline, requires careful sortie planning - if you mess up, you stand little chance to get out alive.

Fw 190D-9

The Ferrari of 190s. Sleek looks, fantastic performance. I feel safe when I fly it. Good for lonewolfing or when Blue are outnumbered. Might change with 4.0, who knows.

Me 262

The ultimate WW2 plane. Allied types had to reach past VE day for P80 to counter it in this sim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. If ever Allies get their Tempests, Spit XXXs and 150 octane mumbo jumbo ultra boosts, this is the plane to fly. As Graf Krupinski said: "We were feeling like a king in the air. We were again the king. I was singing loud in my aircraft....sitting in a 262 and flying in a 262 - it was unbelieveable."

Besides being a plane which marked a beginning of a new era, it also has the looks. Combined with paint mottling, it looks like a shark. And it is a shark - to which all prop planes look like helpless fish.

1) Cobra
2) I-16
3) Cobra
4) IL-2m3...those big guns are like canopeners - better than even the .50 cal for killing Tigers!
5) Cobra
6) Anything from Lavochkin Land but the 5FN is my favorite.
7) Did I mention the Cobras?
8) OK, the Spitfire is the prettiest plane ever made, but the Cobras are like the girl you aren't going to marry but learned the most from.
9) For a guilty pleasure I fly the A-8 or Dora if there aren't enough Blues. Guilty because it makes my Cobra feel jealous, and that is one jealous bird!
10) And I sometimes fly the G-6 or Emil because I love the sound of their engines purring away.

Well I have a nasty feeling what the response to thi might be but my favourite is the Spitfire. From a purely technical and performance related point of view I like the 109 as well. I love the Spit but I like the 109, I favour the Spitfire because 1) Its good at what it does, plain and simple and its a joy to fly and 2) An awful lot of the 22000+ Spitfires, were within 15 miles of where I live and grew up.

I like the 109 because its good at what it does, plain and simple and its a joy to fly. Preferably the G2, it is deadly.

After these two its anybodys guess and I enjoy them all, particularly the fast ones that climb well and pack a useful punch and I like the multi engined heavy fighters (P38, Beaufighter, Bf110 and soon, hopfully the Mosquito and JU88) and the light multi engine bombers like the B25, A20, HE111.

In TAC I fly Zeros and 109E7s, I like the Zero but the instruments are a bit awkward being mounted so low. Pretty soon we will get the long awaited Malta campaign and we will start off flying Gladiators then Hurricanes and then Spitfire MkVcs because for the first time in a long time we will be flying Allied again.

Please note that repeat phrases are intentional.

That is safe ,deadly, with a feeling of "sports car" .

I personaly love the FW-190D-12 too. Although it reched serial production only in early March 1945 it saw an actual battle unlike "what ifs" like Go-229 and Do-335.
Walther Krupinski, the great ace (197 victories) flew this plane during the last couple of months.
The FW-190D-12 had a lot of subvariants like all the FW-190s, but only the
FW-190D-12/R-11 (a version with kind of a super radar) reached serial production. It was a multirole fighter-interceptor wth a much heavier armour protection ( if you compare with FW-190D-9), unlike the FW-190D-9 it had a flat armoured cowling without any MGs in it. This "bird" got a powerful Jumo-213F engine (2060 hp at takeoff, 2560hp with MW-50) with a 3 stage supercharger wich was much better than the Jumo-213A used on FW-190D-9( 1750 at takeoff, 2240hp with MW-50).
As a result the FW-190D-12/R-11 could a speed of 615km/h (with MW-50) at seelevel, when FW-190D-9 reached only 575 (with MW-50, although in the game it can reach more than 590km/h). The FW-190D-12/R-11 could reach around 728 km/h (with a GM-1) on a high altitude when D-9 reached only 704 km/h (with GM-1). Pluss it got apowerfull armament two 20mm guns in the wing roots and a 30 mm MK-108 with 85 rounds firing through the propeller spin.
I hope that one day it will be in the game.
I
