Help! I have been flying the "Senior Service" campaign and was just about surviving this excellent collection of FAA scenarios until I reached the episode involving the Corsair 2 up against Kamakazi attacks on the fleet. (At least I assume thats what happens as I failed to take off).

The question I am asking is how can I take off with a full tank and two drop tanks. I have tried various flap and/or radiator settings, rudder and elevator trim, locked tail wheel etc. Every time I leave the flight deck I stall after a short distance despite retracting u/c asap and trying a very shallow climb out. Prop pitch is set to 100% and engine at full emergency power.

Can someone give me a steer please?

when you need to defend the carrier
do you need to start with fuel drop tanks?

when flying off a carrier with a heavy loadout...I often use landing flaps.....but the Corsair is certainly one of the most difficult to take-off from a carrier....

if all else fails and you are getting frustrated.....let autopilot take-off for you....then take over after a minute....the AI rarely crash

I just tried and if I'm starting in the lead spot with 8 planes on deck I can't do it. If starting 2nd man back or further back I could do it most of the time (full flaps, mix 120, gear up and don't try to climb just keep from hitting the water).

Personally I would just ditch the drop tanks before you take off (you won't sustain any damage).

I tried it a number of times, and I cannot do it with 75% and droptanks. I can with 25% and Droptanks, or with 75% and NO droptanks. (which is what I would choose for the mission).

Here are tracks of both success' and a link to a modest demonstration on how I do a carrier takeoff and landing.

Oilburner's got it right when he recommends to loose the tanks.

Good luck.

Thanks for tips http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif everyone, I feel a bit of a chump for not thinking to drop the extra fuel tanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I'll try full flaps Fabianfred and TAW_Oilburner and I didn't realise you can use Autopilot to take-off Fabianfred.

f.ip2 the tanks come with the particular episode of the campaign "Senior Service" I assumed that there may have been a long "Loitering" time before the attack. Some of the other episodes have long flying times to and from the carrier to the operation, so I assumed I'd need the tanks.

Thanks Waldo.Pepper for the excellent video track I've survived in the "Senior Service" campaign by ditching and bailing out or crashing into the deck in a none fatal way so far but with a little help from your tutorial I might actually manage to land.

As a matter of interest is it possible to download the tutorial to view on something like Windows media Player?

Thanks again everyone.

Sure thing.

You can download from google. It is a bit of a pain, and the quality is a little reduced.

Here is the movie file in wmv and also the track file from the game. I think the track file will be more useful. It is smaller for one thing, and you can move around the POV to suite your taste. But the movie has better music. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Still the movie is I think a hair over 70 megs.

Since it's a kamikaze intercept mission, shouldn't require a lot of fuel, just launch with internal fuel or a centerline fuel drop tank (170 gallon) and 50% internal fuel. You will still need full power, flaps, wheels up as soon as you clear the deck and don't try to climb until you gain sufficient air speed.

one thing you might check is the speed of the carrier. if it's below 50kph you might not make a clean takeoff in the Corsair with stuff hanging on it (tanks, bombs, etc). When I make such missions I have to keep that in mind or suffer the swim, and the carrier runs you over! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
