I apologize in advance if this topic is a little out there. I have FB+AEP+PF patched to 3.04. Is the sim supposed to be that much better with 4.01 or 4.02? I've read the comments on 4.02 and perused the archives for 3.04 but haven't found a definitive answer.

Let me put it another way: Is the sim supposed to suck with 3.04? I like it just fine but what do I know, I was born way too late to experience the real thing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well, I'd patch to the latest version if I was you. And yes, it is much better than 3.04 IMHO...

Agreed...do not listen to whines all around. 4.01 and 4.02 are great patches. The sim can only improve with them.

There is that whole online compatibility thing to consider. If you're strictly an off-liner the new FM might be an annoyance at first but it really isn't that difficult to adjust to; I haven't had the described "wobblies" but in some planes it does seem harder to aim at enemies. On the positive side you get some additional DGen campaigns and overall the AI is improved in the 4.0x versions.

Let me remind you that no patch in the series has been received without some kind of controversy; a lot of the forum traffic is hot air from people who favor certain plane types and feel cheated, and by people who simply like to pull out their textbooks and data graphs to prove their expertise on WWII aircraft. Ultimately it's up to you whether to risk the patch but if you don't you'll miss some nice additions:
