could this be modded? in theory, should increase the observation distance of a uboat..

quote:
"The Focke Achgelis Fa-330 Bachstelze (Wagtail) was specially developed for use in the U-boats as an observation post. A free-turning three-blade rotor was mounted on a vertical pylon attached to a simple framework on which there was an unprotected observer's seat. Carried aft on a tubular boom was a rudder and a horizontal stabilizing surface. The observer had controls for operating the rudder and for tilting the rotor head. The kite was connected to the U-boat by cable and winch and maintained height when towed by a surfaced submarine. The observer could communicate with the U-boat by telephone."
PERFORMANCE
Normal towing speed: 25 mph.
Minimum towing speed: 17 mph.
Rotor speed: 205 rpm.
Max. Altitude: 720 ft.
(on a 985-ft. tow cable)

I remeber asking about this in one of the pre-release live chats with dev team.....never even got past Taskforce. http://fool.exler.ru/sm/duel.gif

In theory one might mode an early type IX boats with cloned snorkel to achieve a "platform" effect.

Raising the p-scope on the surface would do away with the first pic - although it looks like a film crew up there with a cine camera.

That gyro-copter would have been impractical with ASW cover, and it only worked on windy days. I seen a film of it in use somewhere but don't know if this was on patrol or just ploppaganda!
