Very impressive. I wish I liked targetware more.

Maybe one day.

Still this might be our only hope one day. I sure hope the lawyers don't get their hooks into targetware.

Its a shame they don't use detail textures on the ground...or a higher bit depth quality for the textures...

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not the biggest fan of Targetware but I never pass up a chance to fly the Italian birds.

TargetWare's graphics are not that bad, in fact I think the FM look much better then IL2's. Sure the ground might need some texture improvements but that will come once the game gets up and running. Also, the N.Africa mod has very nice ground textures...great improvement over earlier screen shots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As far as I can make out, it's a partially open source Flight Sim engine.

The dev team created a baseware engine - Targetware 0.62 at the moment, then a 'in-house' mod in the Korean war. The idea is that users get a copy of targetware and use it to 'create their own sims'. They make the aircraft models, the objects the Flight Models/Damage models - it's all open.

At the moment there's quite a few mods released/in development.

I don't expect anything near as good as the IL2 series, but it does definitely look worth a download, especially as it seems to be free while it's in beta. It's got a WWI mod http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Well, the FM in TW are suppose to be much more realistic...from the damage models to actual controled, clickable, interior cockpit buttons/levers! So, TW will be where those that want more player control over their planes and realism go and play a more realistic flight sim.

IL2 is still fun but from what I had gathered and experianced from TW...well, TW has IL2 beat.

Nice picture of that Italian bomber also. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So, even though no new Italian planes will be in the next patch and even if BoB gets released, WAY down the road, the Italians, and those that enjoy flying the plane set(s) will be happy with TargetWare. Now I need to find an Italian squad/stormo for TW and join the RA while flying over N.Africa and Med. Sea.

But I still enjoy IL2 also.

I just picked up a copy of Targetware.

I'll keep an eye on it in the future - there are many good points to it, but to be honest I don't feel like it's up to scratch yet.

Main reasons? (based on a quick go of Target Korea and Richtofen Skies)
1. Damage model is pretty basic. There are varying levels of damage due to gunfire, yes, but collisions are still handed in a 'you touch, you explode into a 2D texture of a fireball'.

2. Flight Model is quite good, but still not perfect. Yes, neither is IL2s, but IL2s is much more natuaral feeling than the Targetware so far. For example, trying to take the F86 Sabre off. It runs perfectly smoothly along the ground until it reaches the 'take-off' speed (exactly the same all the time), at which time BANG it unsticks like a rubber band has just snapped. Perhaps the stall response is more natural, but I haven't got that far yet.

3. Bloody awful sounds. The engine noises are bad, the gunfire noises sound like space invaders and the 'explosion' noise when you collide is leveled really poorly (i.e., you turn up your headphones to hear the engine nicely, then the explosion is so immediately loud it makes you rip the headphones off your head). Also the sounds are just that - digital noises. They don't do much to create a feeling of ambience.

Thing is, as this is a partially open source game engine, it's possible that someone will come along in the future and improve all these aspects. So, worth keeping an eye on, but it won't be taking much flight time away from the IL2 series just yet.

My two cents.

The biggest difference between Target:Tobruk and IL-2 is that :Tobruk at least is taking the theatre seriously. IL-2's "map", if you can even call it that, assumes the whole of North Africa is about 50 km wide http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif, and it just goes downhill from there.

:Tobruk hopefully will be the first sim to actually make an honest attempt to portray Malta, Sicily, and the entire length and breadth of the N. Africa campaign.

Wow. I'm only really interested in the WW1 sim though.

The problem is that we have waited for a long time for a MED sim and for the italian aircrafts......really too much, and we have to wait again.
Sincerly....is not possible wait so many years for a Macchi fighter....no only one sim have never had them....very sad.

There was "Desert Fighters" by Sierra...but it was cancelled.
Don't tell me about CFS....

So somebody is gone away...
