View Full Version : Campaign AI leadership is flawed

I started a campaign flying the Spitfire with me as tail end charlie in the formation.
First mission escort Hellcats attacking Japenese positions on an Island.
My formation takes off and then proceeds to fly at 1000meters towards target. Needless to say we are bounced by 20+ bandits and lose all six aircraft.

I then restart campaign as me as Commander.
After take off I climb to 4000meters and enagage bandits from altitude by Split S'ing onto them from the rear. Result 10 bandits down versus 2 Spitfires.

Also observed that the Helcats do not egress the target area once bombs gone or damaged. Watched one hapilly fly right across several flack positions and then orbit the island. Needless to say none returned due to flack. However I did get bounced by a George and had my six cleared by a Hellcat so they are not all bad.

The AI seems to have extremely bad self preservation.

BTW after downing two and damaging several other bandits was hit in the wing. Limped back to carrier and got her down on the deck with a broken prop. Still and extremely fun sim, just shame about the AI and tactics.
