Rough translation:

Ever dreamed of making a movie? Ubisoft and the Independent Film Channel (IFC) organised a competition for a short movie regarding Assassin's Creed.

As of today people can send in their short movie based on Assassin's Creed. It then will be watched and judged by the IFC media lab. The movie mustn't be longer than 6 minutes and has got to have one of the following themes:

"¢ Planning, assassination, escape
"¢ Social stealth - using crowd as a means of disguise or escape
"¢ Assassination in public and in close proximity to the victim
"¢ Assassination of historical figures
"¢ Conspiracy surrounding historical assassination

The winning movie wins $10,000, an Xbox 360 and a copy of Assassin's Creed. It will also feature on the Limited Edition of the game and will receive airtime on the IFC television network in November during the AC launch day.
Second and third prize receive exactly the same, but with less money: a 'mere' $ 2,500.

For more information about the competition, go here (http://medialab.ifc.com/content.jsp?pg=assassins_creed.html).

To enter you have to be American, so once again the Europeans are ruled out of the competition.

Do you know if animated(drawn/3D) movies count?

You guys probably know this but Ubi Montreal are expanding their studios and adding on a CG movie making faction. I read that the first thing they where gonna make was an AC 8 minute long movie. I know for a fact that I read it (and it wasn't on Wiki) but I can't give you a source.

I am pretty sure none of you would win even if you were allowed. Take your fragmented English, who would merit such poor language skills? I am pretty sure Ubisoft considers Europe the shunned child that nobody ever pays attention to. Lhorkan, if they didn't frown upon you they probably would have allowed you to enter the competition - silly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. Better luck next competition!

And of course, Ubisoft's originally a French company, which makes your arguments even less valid than they already were. But please, do keep up the "arrogant-narrow-minded-all-American-patriot-with-a-penchant-for-being-anal-about-spelling" act - it's hilarious!

Then, FCY, it says alot about how much Ubisoft cares about their past. As for American patriot, you obviously didn't think that through. I never said anything that retains any semblance of nationalism/patriotism, I guess analytic abilities/insight isn't part of the criteria to become an admin on this site. Making fun of Europe not getting allowed to enter a competition is not patriotism. Neither is me saying Ubisoft snubbed your (I am presuming you are European) continent. Here's an example, as it is clear to me that you need a quick refresher lesson, of patriotism: Europe is inferior because its GNP pales in comparison to the United States or the Italians (I'm half Italian by the way) are a ridiculous people because they lost a conflict with Ethiopia in attempted colonization. If you ban me because I disagree with you, I shall go as a martyr. If you realize that you mislabeled my actions as "patriotism" rather than an insincere jab at Europe, you are forgiven.

Ok, let's stop the bashing here, UBI always went with America when it came to prizes or competition, take The Swordsmen for example, prizes there were only shipped to America or Canada, so they just have a thing for America, that's all...

My comment was meant to be taken as a joke - a mere reaction to your taking the mickey out of Europe, and nothing more. Rest assured that when I do feel like "attacking" you, I will choose my words much more carefully, so that, in your reply, you won't have to worry about semantics and can concentrate solely on being condescending. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And for the people that apparently don't know the real reason why Ubi doesn't give away prizes to Europe: Ubi Montreal (and other studios in the USA) are a complete different fraction of Ubi than the EU Ubi's. Due to legal reason they can't give us prizes.

(that's at least what they told us a while ago on the Dark Messiah prizes site. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif )

Good, I was worried. In that post, it struck me as odd that you couldn't differentiate between patriotism and heckling. I did, however, feel it was necessary to elucidate the differences for you; it is not easy to gauge the intelligence of messageboard-posters and I have learned - in the recent past - that it is safe to assume that twenty percent are fourteen year olds (annoying) and the other eighty percent retain a dearth of intelligence. As for condescending, I didn't mean to come off like that on my first post. I just like "taking the mickey" out of people I guess. By the way, what the hell does that phrase mean and in what country is it used.

God. This competition has turned into a war.

Anyway, I think that the reason Ubisoft out ruled us Europeans is because they would have a hard time watching all movies from all countries in Europe.

A shame though... All the greatest producers/directors come from Europe.

No offense!

You obviously haven't been exposed to very many movies. The only director, that isn't an American, I enjoy is Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams and Babel) and he is Mexican. As a matter of fact, the only other good directors/producers - other than Americans - are Japanese/Chinese. America has: Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola. There is no debate here, you cannot come up with any better producers/directors.

Good production/direction is pretty subjective guys and quality cant be decided by awards or nominations. Lets just say there are a lot of good producers and directors all around the world. I mean, those American guys mentioned have all listed "foreigners" like Hitchcock, Fellini, Welles and Kurosawa, just to name a few, as strong influences on their work.

ps dont forget the good Australian/New Zealand directors around: Miller, Weir, Jackson, Hicks, Luhrmann... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Oh oh my sides hurt! Ahaha you talk about having such a high GNP when you obviously don't know that Norway has a much much higher GNP then the United States. I'm not shure if you actually know this but Europe consists of many different countries, good and bad. FYI we learn english at school, not american and I actually think I'd get an above average score if I took one of those national tests(if you have those kinds of tests). The only thing is that we don't practise our english speaking and that's not a good thing.
Just one more thing. A lot of people that I've met from different countries(not european) are amazed about how much stuff we know about world history and geography compared to them. I like americans and I think they are good people, but trash talking won't get you anywhere.

Oh I just have to write this aswell. My brother went one year in high school in Massachusets and when he got there they asked him if we had telephones in Norway HAHAHA I mean COME ON!

@Elkvass: It's a good thing you're able to laugh at the argument presented by HeresToAtomBomb, though I fear your attempt at refuting his logic will be met with a devastating come back from said person. In case you hadn't noticed, this self-proclaimed notoriously politically incorrect young (I assume) man does not wish to discuss his opinion of the world with anyone. He needs to be condescending and berating to other people, even though they might actually share his view. Take a quick look at the posts he's made in various threads the last couple of days and I'm sure you'll agree. He's never wrong and he's unlikely to shy away from simple name-calling.

I have to admit, though, that this guy is actually rather good entertainment. As such, I'm kinda hoping he keeps up this level of rarely seen arrogance and belligerence mixed with a level of intelligence that might be slightly lower than what he himself believes it to be.

(Aw, but wait...I think I just accidentally set myself up for another one of his crushing blows! Darn it, I might be headed for trouble...)

Since this is my second to last day of posting, I will come clean with you all. I am currently a rising senior at Vanderbilt University (top 25 school in the country thankyouverymuch). I am currently working at an internship at an investment banking firm in the sales department. It is very interesting; however, they do not have much for me to do so I fill my days talking to you guys. I am abrasive and I apologize for that but it shall be for only one more day. I love Assassins Creed as I know - already - it will be game of the year. Halo 3 is a joke, do not get me started on it. Marinius, I kinda like you. You and the FCY guy. As for the rest of you, you guys are alright!

As for Elvkass, you must be on crack... Firstly, I wasn't talking about per capita. Learn the facts, there is a difference. Secondly, I was merely giving an example of what I construe as nationalism. So here's a lesson, your population is ridiculously small compared to our three hundred million. As of July 2007, your population is four million, six hundred twenty seven thousand, nine hundred and twenty six. We are fifty times larger than you, that statistic is useless. Wow, you have a high standard of living. Your GDP is, according to the only statistics I could find (year 2000 - see link #1), circa one hundred and fourteen billion dollars.

Do you really want the finishing blow now? Ok, the United States - in the year 2003 (I am aware it is 3 years later but GNPs do not change that fast) - had a GNP of circa ten trillion, four hundred billion dollars (see website #2). Ok so here's the math lesson. 10,400,000,000,000 / 114,000,000,000 = what? That's right, ninety one. Our GNP is ninety-one times the size of yours. Also, if you look at the second website, around 2003 our GNP was marginally less than all of Europe's. Ha Ha!

Check and Mate.

Good, all I did was prove Elv wrong. You have no argument with me as everything I just said is merely fact. Good-bye.

Yes - aparently you're not aware of this - but we have the best collegiate system in the world. So 18th in the country here is definitely better than any school you could possibly be exposed to wherever you're from. If you're from America and are informed about the best universities in the nation, then you've heard of my school. See when you go to school in an extremely competitive nation, being in the top 25 actually means something. I am not saying, well I guess I am saying, that I am smarter than you.

Do not even try to take away from my intellectual capacity, you will be crushed.

Wow, I' m actually quite honored dear sir! And like I said earlier, you're fairly amusing yourself. If the abrasiveness of a young man about to succeed in the world could be toned down a notch, I think I might like you as well.

Now, as for your other statements regarding GNP etc. you're absolutely right of course. I feel a bit bad for monsieur Elkvass, as I'm Norwegian myself and I did foresee your crushing his argument.

That being said, I'd like to add to your comments about my country that Norway is consistently ranked no. 1 at the UN's annual standard of living survey. The nation is completely debt free. We have a petroleum fund that increases rather dramatically every year, it is now worth about 335 billion US dollars. This money belongs, in theory, to all Norwegian citizens. Now, that's not too bad for a population of roughly 4.5 million, is it?

Still, I don't really see the point in such comparisons between one of the largest and one of the smallest countries in the world. One could of course compare the general standard of living, so long as the parameters of what that should entail are clearly defined and agreed upon.

HeresToAtomBomb, I sincerely think you should stop by these forums even after your internship is finished and entertain the masses. The people need diversion, and you're good for that.

How is Norway, I would love to travel there. I've been to Denmark (Copenhagen (sp?)) and I had one of the best times of my life. The girls are ALL shockingly beautiful there so, needless to say, I had fun. Do you guys have any skiing out there? I've been skiing in Austria and I can attest to the fact that Engelberg is one of the best mountains, period. I think you might have convinced me to stay (you and Scythe of course) but people need to start taking me with a grain of salt. That whole political discussion thread that got locked, talk about an ordeal! But yeah, Assassin's Creed will be grand.
