Hi all,

My considered opinion is that every pilot here should have his own Airfield Garden and Private Shed. A small piece of land on the airfield that is his own. Until he dies of course..which could be soon.

The purpose of his Airfield Garden and Shed is as follows:

1. A location to drink beer with other pilots and celebrate victories.

2. A location to drink beer with other pilots and remember those who did not return. (because they had too much beer in 1. above).

3. A place to hide when the CO wants volunteers.

4. A place to take your girlfriend. (Remember, your Garden Shed is cheaper than the Cinema or a Hotel).

5. A place where you can grow strange vegetables and impress fellow pilots and girlfriends.

6. A place where you can hang out your washing to dry and not be embarassed just because you have only have two pairs of things.

I have here a few RAF pics from 1940 of an active Airfield Garden and Shed. They were taken during a raid so the quality is not too good.

Pilot Officer Avro was the inhabitant at the time. But he cannot be seen in the pictures so I'm told because he was washing varied and somewhat comical vegetables for his girlfriends breakfast in the PRIVATE Nissen shed.

There is also a facility for hanging out washing!

Are you sure you want your underwear hanging out in full sight of the enemy during an air raid ... they are likely to fill your boxers full of holes and leave you with only the uniform you are wearing

They had a go at Avro's underwear but were way off target as this pic shows:

Are you sure you weren't "borrowing" an Auxiliary Squadron toff's "stately mansion away from home"? Probably not or there would have been a sign like this: "Bf 110 tradesmen around back".
