View Full Version : Question from a complete moron!

thejimmer

Sorry for being a moron but I have a very keen interest in the pacific theatre. I have just purchased pacific fighters and I am having serious problems. I can't seem to even take of from the carrier. I engage the engines and increase the throttle however the plane doesn't move all that happens is the engine overheats and then its game over. I have even tried wheel brakes however this does nothing. I have been at this for ages and the manual and the so called 'training missions' are of no help at all. If anyone could give me some pointers I would be most gratefull.

I don't have the game yet, but from what I hear you have to remove the chocks first.

JG7_Rall
10-22-2004, 03:42 PM
If you had read the readme, you would have read that there are chocks that are put under the tires to allow the engine to attain max power before you start rolling. Assign a key in the controls to toggle chocks and press it after throttling up.

Try harder to fix your problem next time.

Please Please ... be a little more helpfull.
Do not put anyone off....
If you get annoyed by questions, do not reply.. just get into your fighter and fight.

Let's be friendly out here!

Thejimmer.... goto Controls, assign a key to 'Chocks', (I use 'Z' as C does something else) next take off from a carrier, full throttle, wait for max rpm, relaese chocks, and away you go!

You may want to set takeoff flaps as well and if you're on the harder difficulty setting be prepared to use your rudder to correct your swing as you accelerate.

Make sure your thrust nozzles are correctly orientated before attempting a take off.

Rall's was the only condescending answer in this thread, and was the only one who deserved his response. The others were joking.

Believe me I am thick skinned, I just thought its so bloody annoying because the whole game is pretty thin. The training missions are a complete joke. Don't worry about me I will bust my *** to master this game and will see you lot in the skies. And is this tough talking from a newbie? Yes it is a I mean to back it up.

I think you have to assign a key to the chocks if it isn't already set.

All I wanted was a simple answer to my question? What did I get? A mini lecture on problem solving. And because its my first post I have to gleefully accepts other peoples ignorant comments? I didn't know there was a pecking order. As for changing my online name well that doesn't matter as long as I burn thats so called Na.. I mean German ace I will be very happy. Well I was going to change it to Bremen_inferno or is that just too much?

Hey welcome aboard.... do yourself a favor and get Forgotten Battles and the Aces Expansion Pack... FBGOLD if you can. Then install PF over it. You wont be sorry. As far as the sim goes.. it has a very steep learning curve. If you want something you can hop in and rule the skies...or even hold your own... this aint it.. You will have to practice and you will have to crash and burn... a lot ... before you can really say you are "doing it" but it is well worth the effort. That is a part of the sims charm. If I were you I would not take these guys too seriously... just suck it up and enjoy the sim. Dont look for a quick anything but a quick death... the rest will come in time. Give yourself about a week before taking off and landing on land becomes something you can actually pull off more often than not. Hit the Essentials link in my sig and check out some of the other community sites. You might also consider a total reworking of your controls.... think of where you want seperate engine start, pitch, trim all that. Get your stick and or keyboard (or whatever interface you use) set up ASAP. It will make the sim more enjoyable. Map radiator, flaps all that.... Good luck and Welcome aboard.

P.S. Most of these guys have been fu@king themselves for the first 16 or so years of thier lives and wouldnt relish going back to visit Ms. Palmer again... LOL... for some of the others it would probably be a step up.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!!!!!!!!!!! your rapier wit floors me!! all the pseudo huns ganging up on me eh? And I have flown flight sims before Sturmovik is not hte be-all and end-all. Just because the manual or the training missions didn't mention chocks and they were in the readme doesn't mean I don't have a clue about flight sims, please don't patronise me. And anyhow I find playing facists or communists distatefull.

BTW... Im glad you didnt complete your ... statement to Rall... he may be a jerk at times like all of us can be on some days.. but we dont take lightly to name calling especially that one so try to refrain from using it. I put it in the same category as that other N word that I detest so.... and also dont use the shortened or derogatory (depending on thye person) word for Japanese either.. you know the one that starts with J or N..... 3 letters.. ending in P on both? Dont use it or your post will be deleted.

Look I am no knuckle dragging racist, thank you very much, it took me a long time to decide to post here and my fears where realised. I don't mind a joke what I do take exception to is some GIT dishing out snotty comments. I thought the training missions where of a very low standard when compared to other flight sims. And the point is they made no mention of the ****ed chocks!!!!. AS for having to bind nearly ever bloody key thats just a nightmare. Having to check to make sure that you haven't used a key twice is just a joke.

Slammin_

You don't have to check. The interface warns you. Get lost. Your presence is no longer required here.

Calling people "Nazis" and "huns" while telling them to "**** off" sure seems snotty to me.

You asked a question that is answered very clearly in the readme. They're called "readmes" for a reason, you know. While Rall's post may not have been the most diplomatic thing ever to appear on the internet, it's pretty easy to understand why somebody would adopt such a stance. It is not hard to read the instructions, which is why everybody else has done it. In fact, it requires less effort to read the instructions than to ask somebody else how to do something...

Ooh so thats it because I'm pointing out faults in this game, I should try arcade games is that it? OOh I see your all better than me.... AS for getting lost!! You can't deny that this product is sloppy. I have waited years for a decent pacific sim and had high hopes for this one. This game needs one mother of a patch. And slammin your the one with the attitude I mean who died and made you God?

Everything I've read (via filtered glasses mind you) tells me that PF is more of the same, but also much more of what I already enjoy in the series.

I guess in all fairness I've never imagined, and really cannot at this point, imagine PF being my first experience with IL-2, and me being so into it.

But from what I am hearing, if PF was my first exposure to IL-2, I should be kicking myself in the butt for not getting into this sim sooner.

Not sure what your hangup is thejimmer, but be glad I have only had 4 beers, else we both risk getting banned for posting to the thread:

"Question from a complete moron!"

I'm starting to feel stupid for actually responding to you http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

You don't have to suck up to any one, just learn a bit of diplomacy. See I told you it tastes like SH*T but now the rest will taste sweeter.

Oh and by the way. If any of these other twits display an attitude, It doesn't mean we all have to crawl down into their pit (unless we all want someone to get savaged) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

A tip for you:if you have trouble with landing on the carrier(be it stational or moving) try to put down the arresting hook. When I watched some PTO chronicals I saw them pacific planes using it.I think it has something to do with wires on the decks of carriers.

I wonder if there are nets on carriers in PF.

Im not calling you a racist at all.... If you took it that way it was unintended. I just was pointing out a few phrases we just dont use.. I didnt think you would use the other n word I was refering to.. I was talking about the sig heil word.. that you almost used on Ral. You sure are sensitive. I was just sayin to you that to call a German member that is tantamount to the other word to an AfricanAmerican member here.... thats all.. I never implied that you were racist.. and since you are new here you might not know that the two 3 letter names for Japanese are frowned upn. Just giving you a heads up is all...

Jimmer, Rall can chew you up and spit you back out in FB/AEP/PF or out. Go easy on yourself and learn to step back once in a while and smell the d.amn roses!

Personally I find your demeanor to be more destructive to the fabric of our little Ubi Forum society than Rall's. All this commie and fascist slander and libel (depending on if you want to call this a conversation or not) is just uncalled for and calling US something like snotty sh*tes or whatnot is definately not the way to go, especially if you're new here. You can stand up for yourself and hold your own without telling people off like that.

LOL these type of discussions remind me of when you walk into a room where there has been a big fight and everyone is all quiet and glaring at you and you just look around and go, "dang, missed something funny didnt I?"
