The last two shots look terriffic - the muted autumn browns are a big improvement over the present slightly over bright and even greens. Bit of a shame the snow textures are such an even, smooth white but I guess this is as a result of the age of the graphics engine.

Exellent work & can't wait till they become available http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've heard rumours that those maps have implemented a nifty waypointing system (or something similar) that has improved the way AI will act in the game.

If so, DOUBLE http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Forgive me ignorance but where approx. is Kurland. I assume it is further south than Murmansk. Is it in the Baltic region??

Kurland is in Lithuania, or in White Russia/Prussia or something like that I think. It's at the western end of the Gulf of Finland, on the coast.

Which LW units were historically in these 2 areas ? Since it's in the north, I'm guessing JG54, but any others ?

Thanks crazy & all.

rpkiller - yes, the autumn colours are nice, esp. the new fields by Daniel Roger. Actually the white snow is anything but even, it's just that the pics primarily show airbases. But look in the top left corner of the x-airbase shot or the hill on the far side of Murmansk, that's what the texture (tundra) is like on most of that map. And in the winter Kurland shot with the Stuka-G, note that you can see the field edges etc under the light covering of snow. You will see - the maps aren't flat white at all and give a better impression of speed and alt than current winter maps.

Junko - no, there are improvements but the waypoints haven't really changed - you still fly to the target and back after all. What has changed is that we can now determine where individual plane types will start from, allowing detailed campaign making and progression through the campaigns. For example in Murmansk the RAF will fly only from Vayenga, as in reality, not from any red fighter base as at present. In Kurland the period July 44 - May 45 is split into 9 campaigns allowing the player to move across the map meeting different targets instead of always bombing the same places. Also (for example) a Baltic Fleet IL-2 campaign will take place in a completely different area to an Army IL-2 campaign, allowing better replayability.

FTD - the Kurland map covers western Lithuania and Latvia and the northern parts of East Prussia (today's Kaliningradskii Oblast', part of Russia). Basically, the Baltic coast from Riga to Cranz.

Tenneal - basically I./JG77 (becoming JG5) in Murmansk, JG54 in Kurland. In addition various ground-attack etc units.

Ideally it would have been Friday 25th but the last I heard from Oleg was 10 days ago saying he was going home, sick. So although I have the files I don't feel comfortable issuing them without Oleg's permission, plus I now have a raging temperature myself.

A couple of days (I hope) shouldn't make much difference.

I´m looking forward to these maps, but I would like that could be included with the 3.05 patch and not in a separate release.

Tnx Ian! The screenshots from the new maps show a true beauty!

The pushed back release date of 25th was for the whole 3.05 patch, not just for Ian's maps. At least I think...

Kurland & Murmansk are 2 out of 3 of the maps we're getting in 3.05. I'm just hoping the new PF map can equal Ian's quality :-)

Man,

If I count all of the time we have been told that things have been delayed or put on hold because Mr Maddox and/or key member(s) of his staff were sick, I estimate that they would have made a much better choice last month when the moved their office by actually moving 1C into a wing of one of Moscow's hospitals.....give me a break Jeez http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Singapore is (possibly) GREAT NEWS... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Singapore map may (or may not) include much of the Java Sea and Dutch East Indies, allowing many islands on one map ~~> a "first" for PF, and would allow a long campaign across multiple distant islands.

...if its big enough and without all the difficult to program Roads, Building Objects, and FB Rivers that don't fit with Pacific Fighters. Hopefully its simple enough to be *large* and include Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and maybe all the way to the Celebes.

LEXX_Luthor

Much early long range combat movement in the SouthWest Pacific. The Dutch had build extensive system of airfields all across their islands in SouthWest Pacific, but did not use them although the Japanese were Happy to use them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif The Japenes forces swept down through Borneo, Celebes, etc, island hopping Army and Navy fighters and bombers until they got into Java and islands east nearer Aussie. Saburo flew missions in this region early 1942, basking in the Bali sun during time off.

Interesting interview with P~38 pilot, conducted strikes against Japanese targets in Celebes he did. <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>GG: Oh, it all seems so vague now. Hard to remember the details. We strafed air fields on Kendari in the Celebes, shooting up aircraft on the ground. And I remember dive-bombing Rabaul in a P-39 with a 500 lb. bomb. We'd descend from 12,000 feet, drop the bomb at 5,000 feet and have enough altitude to get back up and fly away.

I know the title of the board reads 'Pacific Fighters', but this is the same Ubi board that has been around since the original release of IL2. A lot of the people on this board are playing/have played the Forgotten Battles series - you know, the one with all those maps in 'Alaska' (Russia, maybe?) - long before Pacific Fighters ever came out. Because of the dedication of a lot of uncompensated 3rd party developers, we're finally getting a major new update to the IL2FB series, of which Ian Boys' maps form a major component.

So far, the 3rd Party developers haven't been given the opportunity to develop for the Pacific Fighters components, as it's still in 1C's hands. Be sure that they'll have a crack at it when they get the chance, but it'll be a while yet.

Thank you IanBoys. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And Aminx, it's Friday night. Go beer, relax, have some laughs. Then come again, tired and happy, and think it again: Is it fair to blame IanBoys for your insatisfaction with PF? After all, he's giving us good things. On a hand you have those -wonderful- 'Alaska' maps IanBoys made for us. On the other hand you have... nothing. What do you prefer?

We can understand your frustration to some point, Aminx. It's the way your frustration expresses itself, and your misguided choice of propiciatory victims what we don't like, lad.

If there's something I'm sure of, is that the lack of maps in PF isn't Ian's fault. So, please, you should be grateful to him and respect the quality and effort of his work.

You just need more ability for enjoyment. PF is only a product for entertainment. Life is full of 'incomplete' and 'lacking' experiences that are far more important than this; if you're goin' to react the same way for every one of them, you're gonna be a bitter man.

Take it easy! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A preview of the Singapore map area I have seen shows it includes a small part of Sumatra, part of the Riouw archipelago and most of Malaya- approximately the area bordered by Lat. 5 deg N and 1 deg N, and between Long. 101 and 105 deg E. Overall, an area of approximately 275 x 275 miles. So no Java, Palembang area of Sumatra, Borneo, Bali or Celebes.

Gentlemen! I've entered this thread to glean a little information on current maps being worked on by Ianboys.
Imagine how dismayed I am to find several parts of the thread concentrating on just how biggoted and unpleasant people can be to each other, (on both sides of the arguement), instead of celebrating someones hard work to give us all further enjoyment in what is after all, a fantastic flight sim.
Good god, does it matter if we get extra maps, in the wrong order of priority for some people I know, but even with missing content, I still haven't managed to utilise all the facets of the game yet, and I'm on it every day since it came out!!
I occasionaly come on to the forums to glean information and help, and I have to say that there are many threads like this one where people are constantly having a go at each other instead of using each others expertise and ideas to get more out of the game!
I can't be alone in thinking like this surely?
I sometimes leave the forums with a sour taste in my mouth, (no pun intended), because of the malice and ill will that is a constantly being portrayed by many individuals in the name of this great, what is after all, game!
Come on people, lets all get on side with this one eh?.....Who knows, we all may start to get along for the common good!!

The moderators have the responsability of observing and helping the members and not allowing them to be abused or even insulted by anyone no matter who it is , this has to stop.Never have we seen a forum behaving this way towards its members and its been going on since day one with Luthier. This is the direct result of monopolies and the wicked mind. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I still think your bluffing. I don't think anyone could be _that_ dumb. But, by all means, continue. This is such a huge laugh. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Actually, he isn't totally off-base. The mods in this forum are a bit cavalier with regards to deleting people who are not necessarily insulting or breaking the rules but just say something that they don't want to hear or offends one of their "buddies". It is, due to the mods, a rather limited forum in that respect. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Actually, it not just in this forum that I've witnessed this, although the Soviet background does inhance this will to censor, but I've seen this in American, US forums as well. Maybe those two are not all that different, one couched in "democracy" and one couched in "the glory of red". If it quacks like a duck, it is a duck. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
