My thoughts on this: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/latest/display.var.1856...gel_of_the_south.php (http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/latest/display.var.1856825.0.spitfire_monument_to_be_ange l_of_the_south.php)

Marvellous... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Southampton now has a chance to really put her self on the map... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif Not only for the people of Southampton, but also to the memory of the people who fought in the Second World War and an aircraft legend of the R.A.F.

The Spitfire and the pilots that flew her were a major piece in the beginning of the end of Nazism in Europe...

So, how do the Spitfire Tribute Foundation envisage this monument, built to undoubtedly one of the greatest aircraft of all time... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif By sticking one on its tail in the earth like a kid might stick a toy that has lost its owners interest... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It should be like this;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/Secudus/SpitMod01.jpg

Banking, high above the earth in polished gleaming stainless steel, with three great supports radiating out from under the fuselage, down toward three ground monuments; one for R.J.Mitchell, the second to Roll-Royce and the Merlin and the third to the Battle of Britain and the Men & Women who served... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Now that is a monument... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

One made by those fortunate to be able to pay tribute to all those that fell so long ago to keep the wolves at bay from our doors... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

If it is built, what Mark of Spitfire should be made... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
