View Full Version : I was able to get the F4U off the Carrier Deck!

I contined a campaign I was playing and noticed that the Carrier was already going 30mph (the key). With 50% fuel and 2x500lb bombs, I got off the deck with take off flaps, gunning the engine and removing the chocks and raising my gear immediately. Probably be able to load a little more and takeoff with landing flaps. It seems a little more realistic, since the Corsair was a heavy plane.

Me too! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif 75% fuel and 2x500lb bombs.
I used 30% )Combat) flaps and full left rudder.

That's not hard to do, and not really the problem. Try more of a load, and 100% fuel.

btw..How do you get 50% fuel in a campaign?

you get 50% fuel in the aircraft customisation screen but maybe only once yuou command your own flight.

in any case, the take offs are harder but not impossible. initially i had some trouble taking off aswell (thought i was just too drunk to fly) but luckily it turns out FMs have change. would have been a shame to blame the beer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yea, anybody can get off of the mile long American carriers. Try a British carrier with the same loadout. I can do it now but it's tough. But of course the Brits had catapults in real life.

I haven't had much trouble getting the F4U and its ilk off the deck, but can't seem to get the I-153 off the deck of a speeding carrier. Try it. Set a large USN CV to go 63kph, and set an I-153 to takeoff. As soon as I let the chocks go, the plane is flying and careens into the tower. Can anyone else get it to work?

I have not tried on a moving carrier.I have tried on a static carrier without success.

As soon as it starts airborn the nose pitches up and it rolls on its back.

Or if I do manage it get it off the deck it immediately rolssright and into the water.

Also similiar on a matted test runway although I can get it off if I use most of it.

The I-153 has a severe torque problem for the powerfull engine (for the time) and short airframe.

DO NOT exceed 60% power until the tail is off the ground or it WILL roll over to the right.

Sooo....go to about 58%, pop the chocks, and when your tail comes of the deck and the airplane is level, apply a little left stick, ram the throttle forward and it will hop in the air at about 90-100 Kph.

Cheers! Mustang

Yea as I said US big carriers ok but bit tricky with the British carrier and there IS a small bug that someone found. The F6F had a wired bug in that it is easier to take off with heavy loads than lighter ones.
