I had a chance to tour the facility that is home to this plane.

Yes my minor obsession with this plane continues. Even bought a book about it. $20

The last two Martin Mars aircraft operate from Sproat Lake. There is a modest museum and they offer tours. Though sadly the tour does not include any ability for the public to clamber all over the airplanes Always wanted to try the - "What's this button do" - routine on the panicky staff. Last time I tried that was in a B-52 at Grand Forks AFB many years ago. Nor do they let anyone nearer to them than these pictures suggest.

When we were there they were just starting to prepare the planes for the down season, winter. Didn't ask what that involves but I can imagine the amount of work involved.

Beautiful! I can recall looking forward to seeing those giants while passing through Port Alberni, on my regular trips to the west coast of the Island. Of course that was over twenty-five years ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif. Nice to see they're are still operating. Thanks for sharing!
