If you'd like to hear the sound of 3 Rolls Royce Griffon engines... click on the link below. Great footage taken from Flying Legends 2004. Looks like it was quite the show.

Those late mark Spitfires look and sound amazing... I have my fingers crossed that the XIV makes it into the sim someday. Wouldn't want a good model to go to waste, would we?

A bunch of downed Germans would disagree with that statement.

The video seems to be edited to show many more Spitfires in the air than there really were, but it's still very good! This is getting saved.

Whats with the mistrust? You can't show any appeciation without putting in some caveat about suspect editing. Try showing a little faith, I was at the Autumn airshow in September that year and there were about 15 Spitfires in the air at the same time. This was taken at the summer show a couple of months before where they had 30 to 40 Spitfires in the air at the same time. The only editing of this footage is the credits, the rest is pretty much raw but hey I'm just a back stabbing Brit and can't be trusted so don't bother listening to me.

Pffft you guy's want to be at legendshttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Those three aircraft took off and passed about 50 feet above me- the noise was fooking amazing!!. From when they power up, to after the they the confindes of the field, the entire place, and people reverberate from the noise. The video doesn't do the justice the experience deserves http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There are around 22 airworthy spitfires in England (Europe) alone. As i was there i can safely say there were around 10 spits there, all flyin in that tail chase. Edited that video hasnt been http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Is there any more?

That was nutters with all of them flying around, I'm sure they knew where everone was or supposed to be. That would of made my heart race like heck to watch all that.

Its very well planned and thought out. Plus they are not as close as the video makes them look. Theres quite a fair amount of spacing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now can you imagine if that was an actual raid on an enemy airfield http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif, carnage!!!

That awesomeness with the crazy number of Spitfires in the air was real? All right! That makes the movie three times cooler.

There's no mistrust, it just looked like it was edited for artistic effect. It wouldn't have been the first time I've seen an aircraft movie wherein images were superimposed for effect.

I do notice, however, that you British seem to have had more respect for your warbirds than we Americans did. Our people ripped apart nearly all of the warbirds except for the slightly overrated Mustang.

But weren't most of them demolished _everywhere_ after the war? Or such was the case with RAF heavy bombers anyway...

Arm_slinger

It looks edited because the camera person has missed take off as well just to concentrate on the action. If you listen carefully you can here changes in engine tones as other begin their take off run, while the 14's a and 18 are performing. Then theres a mixture of 5's 9's, 14's and an 18 in the air http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Theres a hell of a lot warbirds knocking around the US still, you'd be suprised, granted they are of mostly American type, but they are there- numerous B17's a B24 or 2, numerous B25's, a B29 and many more. Considering the US only realy likes its own history in general, they do have some wonderful examples of other powers aircraft- one example is a Royal Naval Seafire 47 that looks beautiful. Also somewhere an IL-2 is being restored to fly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyway back on track, I have got a few photos from the airshow that video was shot at, the main photos you want are the last two of the "Balbo" formation, there you can see just how many spits did fly in the show, and that the video is not edited at all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sorry they're a bit large http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Enjoy though

makes me sick wondering why Oleg couldnt bother to put the correct engine sounds with the planes in the Il2 series..every sim I've flown either had the correct sounds or they were moddable where you could download them in to a planes soundfile .. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Well yes and no. Think about it like this. There were what? 22000+ Spitfires built. There were thousands left at the end of the war and there are perhaps 3 or 4 dozen left today. Perhaps 100+ if you count the ones not in flying condition. We butchered most of ours as well chap.

The sight of freedom for us Brits those last two. It never ceases to bring about a huge feel of pride, respect, thanks and emotion to see the spit (and hurri) section of the balbo. It's truely unique experience to witness an entire fall quite while these old ladies glide in. Bloody marvellous. I've gone all cold thinking about it

If only more of us would of been old enough to been around in the late 50's and 60's. With the frame of mind we now have, we could of saved so many of them. I read once most were scrapped for as little a $500.00 bucks here in the states.

Even you older chaps if finances and frame of mind would of been that then, you could be rich in your old age selling them now, even if all you did was stock them up out back in a field.

Even multiplying by eight for inflation, that's still only four thousand dollars! Were I given that opportunity, I would jump at it. And then I would be flying one of the two P-38 Lightnings which I would now own along with several other United States Army Air Force warplanes, not typing this stupid message. I would have to wait on the house that I am saving up for, but I would literally sleep in a basement if I could fly a warbird even once a month.
