Not in the first release. The Battle of Britain was in summer/fall 1940...so no Lancaster here.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif May be in an later AddOn which covers the following years in war up to 1945

I am sure you will like the Hampden, Wellington and Blenheim, too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Lancaster was a mid-1943 aircraft so not likely. Not in the first little while. I think there was interest on Oleg's part...so MAYBE one day.

Unconfirmed rumors and reports indicate that we will be able to fly the Blenheim Mark IV. Not the greatest of bombers to fly but a useful one as it served on many fronts in the war.

Lanc eh...

After Pe-2 I kinda had the idea to start the Lanc for BoB. A bird like that is going to take a LOT of time and work to finish to BoB standard.

I think this wish is being rekindled tho http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Not sure how feasible it is at this point though. Must speak to Oleg. And it will definitely need to be a team effort. There's a "live" Lanc about 2 hours from here, I will explore the possibility of getting onboard with a camera, for starters.

Just thinking out loud...

It may happen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

With all this talk of Lancasters, I've yet to see a plea for a Manchester (link: http://www.raf.mod.uk/bombercommand/manchester.html )

For those that don't know, the Manchester was a twin engined bomber that was used to develope the Lanc (4 engines). There were at least two vesions of the Manchester - one with two fins, and one with three.

OK, it's not the best known RAF type, but, for game purposes, the Manchester would extend the Lanc development backward in time

i think the lanc was active before 43?

with 4 merlins, the lanc equals the war winningness of the p51,spit AND mossie, all in one airframe http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

the rear turret was also shared on the whimpy, stirling and halifax, i think.

First operational RAF squadron to be equipped with Lancasters was No 44, which used them operationally for the first time on March 3,1942 laying mines in the Heligoland Bight.

The perpetual bridesmaid, the Halifax.

The Halifax had its first opertional mission March 10 1941, one year before the Lanc flew its first aginst targets in LeHarve. Two nights later it became the first British 4 engine bomber to drop bombs on Germany (Hamburg). In July the Halifax attacked the Scharnhorst at LaPalice.

Hey guys, down here the Bullsbrook Aviation Museum has a complete Lanc! Maybe I should go down there with a camera and ask to be let inside (which I doubt http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif)

Oh, I don't know, Air museums can be pretty friendly

If in doubt, ask before you go, and let them know if you're likely to publish your shots.

Nah, it doesn't fly any more, as far as I know. It's supposed to be haunted http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

There's a Lanc in flight on Google Earth, if you look ESE of the intersection of A14 and A141 west of Huntingdon (England), above a residential street called Lake Way.

If you want a BoB RAF 4 engine bomber then the Short Sterling will have to do. This a/c was replacing the Wellingtons of #7 Sqd in Aug 1940. Its first operational sortie was on the night of Feb 10 1941 against the oil storage tanks in Rotterdam.

Hey Bushy...I am going to have a look at that Lanc today and will take camera. BTW its Bullcreek not Bullsbrook http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

A quote from thier webpage

"Let us know if you are coming to see anything special or if you would like us to help you in any way when you arrive. "

So just maybe we could arrange something.

Well they are more than happy to let ppl inside the Lanc for photo reasons for a "Special" donation, I got to sit in the pit of a MK 22 Spit for for a "Special" donation and it was the best $20 I've spent in a long time. The first impression was that there was no way I am gonna fit in that thing..once I got in though I found it surprisingly spacious after my initial thoughts. Enough room to do what you are in there to do..thats about it though, business only ! got some pics but not sure how to go about posting them..will get inside that Lanc at a later date though.

Will all crew positions be able to be occupied by different online players? That's one
group of friends more than 2, able to fill any or all the crew slots? If wounded could
get first aid and navigation becomes real, will bombsights change? Then where B-17II
fell short, the online, SOW would succeed. A mission and fear shared as common should
bring whole groups of players into bit deeper immersion.

hey Bushy, when ya get there, talk to the manager ( left hand side as ya walk in the door)and tell him I was talkin to ya ( wont remember my name anyway ) I was the guy that was talkin about PF etc and wanted the Lanc pics. The Lanc in question though may not be to Olegs liking..its a late ( though authentic ) model that seen no action, painted with another sqns markings out of respect for that sqn..nice look either way!

The second Lanc pictured in Icefire's post belongs to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, part of the Royal Air Force. It is based at RAF Conningsby in Lincolnshire, about forty five minutes from my home. It's clearly recognisable as it is fitted with Avro Lincoln rudders (note the slight point at the lower edge, not the smooth curve of the normal Lancaster). I've often seen it flying over my hometown and it's a much loved symbol of the county.

As the Official Lancaster Whiner, I apologize for being late to this thread. I've been busy flying this lovely Captain Sim C-130 while waiting for Justflight to release their Lancaster.

I do hope we get a Lancaster in IL2 or BoB. It would certainly be the icing on the cake for me.
