Why would he be banned for mentioning that you can *legally* buy the game from Steam?

Only Steam users from the US and Canada can buy the game from Steam. Everyone else is out of luck. (Including me)

There is a thread running on the Steam forums about the Ubisoft games that you might want to read: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=668781

Uhm, Spazz, you seem to be confusing "Steam" with "Torrent", you can buy games quite legally on steam, some other Ubi titles are available on steam. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

caswallawn_2k7

it will most likly be the base game. normaly i would say the bonus is you get it cheaper because of the **** $ but its $50 then steam charges tax so it would end up being over the shop price.

Mnightscare: No, the STEAM system requires users to be online when they play, and besides, the time the game is "unlocked" will probably been universal according to their server's date and time.

I had no idea that Ubisoft have been working with STEAM for distribution... I've only used STEAM once - I bought Half Life 2 and Episode 1 but some thief already had the serial codes. I didn't have the receipts and apparently pictures of the boxes weren't sufficient to get the games reset, which was really irritating. I hope PC gamers which buy AC online don't have any problems!

phreaky you can play steam offline but the game will probly unlock with a patch or a final small file maybe the exe.

Ive ordered from steam before. didnt have any problems that would require hair removal.

Most likely the game is cheaper due to removing the middle man and shipping expenses.

Also remember that if you reformat your HDD you still have the ability to reinstall the game from the steam website portal.

I strongly recommend NOT to download from steam. Every single person I know who had to use it hates it, including myself. I mean have you looked at the compatibility list (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289)? It's a joke, seriously. Some of the major anti-virus programms are on that list. Nod32 for example, even needs to be completely uninstalled for you to use steam(cause believe me, issues are very likely to arise). Not only do you need to be online in order to play(I know there is that oh so famous "offline mode" but it doesn't seem to be working very well for everybody) but it'll also ask you to turn off your this and disconnect your that... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

me and a few friends use steam and never had a problem with other than at peak times you may get an error saying the server is too busy to download but it normaly only takes about 2 or 3 attempts to get it to work. otherwise I havnt changed anything on it and have played all of the orange box, garys mod and CS: source all of them online without needing to change any settings.

as for complaining about the needing a connection to use steam do you not have broadband? it is always on so needing a internet connection isnt realy a problem and the only time you would have a problem playing in offline mode if steam has already been alowed to contact the steam server and find there is a patch needed.

I have no issues with Steam either, it's great piece of software and a convenient way to buy stuff. Not to mention the fact that you don't have to worry about the god damn drm methods companies use these days to protect their games. They are such a huge pain in the *** that I wish that every game would just be released on Steam or similar service.

Lucky you: I had to completely turn off my firewall. First I thought it was only for the activation but it kept telling my it was interferring with McAfee which I am NOT turning off, under any circumstances. Since I had already payed for the game anyway, I ended up *cough cough* well *cough cough* "finding another solution". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif As for my old computer I couldn't use it there at all because it didn't like Nod32. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">do you not have broadband? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I don't have a problem with playing while connected but quite a lot of people I know have a second computer they only use to play games(bunch of addicts, I know) and most of them don't have the internet on that computer. Take my boyfriend for example: 4 or 5 years ago he bought his gaming computer and he still can play every game smoothly on it. Now the problem is, the motherboard doesn't support an internet connection meaning no steam activation for him. If you google "steam playing without internet" or something similar you'll find that there's quite a lot of people complaining about this.

Now I do think that the legal download of games is the way we'll get our games in the future but until steam is improved, I won't use it. Of course, these are only my two cents. But I recommend checking the list and your computer carefully before using steam, you might be out of luck(like me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ).

I use macafee and the firwall built into my router apart from telling macafee to allow the program it didnt complain any more. as for saying a mother board isnt internet capable that is a joke and proves you have no idea what you are talking about as 90% of all mother boards have a network port and now prety much every broadband firm gives out free routers that even do wireless. if you have one of the minority of motherboards that doesnt have a network port you can get a pci card to do it for about 10 in england there is no reason why a pc wouldnt be capable of getting onto the internet.

Did I ever say I know why his motherboard doesn't support internet? I don't understand why it doesn't work, that's right. But what I do understand is English and if I ask my boyfriend "Honey why don't you have internet in your room?" and he tells me "cause my motherboard won't support it", then I understand what he's saying. Understanding the WHY it doesn't support it is not important since I am just the girlfriend and all I'm supposed to do is look cute. I leave the computer stuff to him. And believe me, he does know what he's talking about since he's in he's currently studing informatics. I, on the other hand, am studying languages. I speak and write fluent English, German, French, Portuguese and Luxembourgish and I understand Spanish, Italian and old Latin which you don't so I'd appreciate if you don't talk to me as if I was stupid only cause I don't understand as much about informatics as you do. I have other qualities.
Now of course he did try to get the internet upstairs and he does want it in his room but it DID-NOT-WORK.
My other two friends with a dedicated gaming computer though, don't have the internet on it cause they don't want to have it on it. So far, we still can buy games in shops so I kinda understand that they don't want the internet on it. The problem is the stupid internet activation that pirates have managed to crack anyway (which doesn't make it safe anymore but just annoying for the people who actually paid for the game). It is that activation that annoys people with a special gaming computer, not the motherboard issue(which I never said anyway, I clearly said my boyfriend was an example).
I have tried to use Steam, I have my account there and I still get mails and stuff. I did try and I couldn't get it to work. I did change the setting of my firewall so Steam would be allowed "in" but it still didn't help. I did search on messageboards and everything I found out is that there's a lot of people with similar problems but no solutions. So until solutions have been found, I will use another service instead of Steam and will not recommend it.
And as I already said before, these are my two cents and you don't need to agree with me.

I found an article (http://games.internode.on.net/content.php?mode=news&id=2852) that might make a bit more sense of this issue..well i'm still buying it from retail on 9 - 10th april.
