I don't think i've ever been so happy at a result in a computer game as I was this afternoon when I got my first torpedo hit!

Oh dear I think I am getting hooked...

One question though - I'm trying to play on realistic settings to make the game a challenge, but my watchman happily tells me how far away a visual contact is when i ask what he's looking at.

Aren't i meant to have to work this out by identifying the ship first and working out its height, etc through the periscope or the UZO?

This seems to be a rather simple way of finding out a contact's range and bearing! Do it a couple of times and you'll have its heading as well.

This seems a bit easy to me - or am i missing something important? (which i probably am as i've only just started playing and don't know all the ins and outs yet!)

You may try one of the big mods like RUB , IUB or greywolves.

Also it's a little bit harder to find out which ship the guy is ranging when your looking at a convoy. For single ships you've already figured out the easy way to get a solution. Besides, convoy action is where most of the fun is! Just wait till 1943 attacking convoys becomes so much harder. You'll start to just aim at any ship from the edge rather than pick out the big ones in order to simply survive after an attack!

yup got the IUB mod - was recommended that it made a big difference to the overall atmosphere. Hats off to the guy who put that one together.

And I can guess at what you mean about it being different with convoys, and also I had no destroyer hounding me either!
