I have been wondering why there is no national marking on Val's fuselage. Is this historically correct?

Are you sure you have the "Show Markings" switched on?

Yes, I think so. I just used the default skin in the QMB. I can see the national marking on the wings, but none on the fuselage. In this forum, I also see many screenshots of Val without the national marking on the fuselage. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Best flight modeling around but the entire IL-2 series has not payed much attention to markings since they did the initial Russian and German markings.

They did a good job on the USA markings but the Japanese, British, Australian, and others are lacking.

Interestingly, I just noticed that the Val at the top of this page does not have any national markings at all.

No.

I've just leafed through Peter C. Smith's book on the D3A1/2 (ISBN 1-86126-278-7) and on every photograph where you can clearly see the side of the fuselage the hinomaru is visible, either as a plain red circle or outlined in white.

There are lots of pictures of similarly marked vals at:

There's simply no excuse or justification for this omission. It's very unprofessional.

Yes. Sloppy. They (sort of) fixed a similar glaring omission of the A6M2-21's wing hinomaru in one of the patches. Maybe they'll fix this one. <cough> Maybe not.

I've been suspicious about there not being any marking on the Val's fuselage since the first screens I saw of it. I'm surprised this hasn't been given more attention.

So this is a bug that hasn't been fixed yet? I'm surprised.

I tried to use 'Search' in this forum to find out whether there had been any related thread, but 'Search' function didn't seem to work.

Are Oleg and his team aware of this?

The painters got drunk, took the wrong paints and marked the wrong plane in the wrong place (I'm sure many of You have noticed stars on bottom side of both horiz. stabilizers of B-17E default US skin http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif ). Each time the patch for PF comes out, the first thing I check are: Val's fuselage and B-17E's stabs http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . I hope they'll finally repaint both birds in 3.05...

Regards.
