The coolest airplane from WWII is, without a doubt, the P-38.

Proof?

Glacier Girl. Buried under tons of ice for over 50 years. Almost perfectly restored, and to flyable condition (and it has done so)

Based either on actual temperature in degrees, or "wow" factor, not even a B239 dredged up from a lake in Russian Karelia is cooler than digging an aircraft out of the ice.

Now. Where's my prize?

my definition of coolest? Well, that's highly subjective, but I'd have to say that:

coolest = most P51-like

BM357_OYS would say "tempest, ie. British"

BM357_ZoD cheated... You have to commit is it German or Japanese?

and yes, Robert De Niro is cool...survey says?

I couldn't cast a vote, because in MY opinion, the coolest airplane of WWII was Italian; the Fiat G. 55 just nosed out the Reggiane Re 2005 on the basis of a MUCH cooler camo job than Dark Olive Green.

The scale modellers among you may remember the Classic Airframes 1/48th scale G. 55 and the pastel scheme it featured with the "Gigi Tre Osi" (I may have misspelled that; if so I apologize to our Italian friends) markings. Now, THAT is the epitome of cool. If someone could post a picture of that aircraft, the debate would surely be over.

cheers

Anyway, I'd have to say German aircraft. Namely the Me 262 was the coolest. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif The P-51 is a great plane and I love it, but it's a pretty boy, unlike Robert Denero. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Where were those pictures from. Is that a museum? It looks cool.

best battle of britain fighter.. it won it!

The propellor is just a big fan to keep the pilot cool.. when it stops you can see
the pilot start sweating!

A good landing is one you can walk away from...A great landing is one where they can use the plane again afterwards!!!
