Notice the VERY detailed rivets, and paint damage.

Fuselage is only 50% done, but the upperwings are 99% done http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Vastly increase the contrast in top wing and upper fuselage colours. May not by "hysterical correct" but that's how I like my colours, not all faded out so you can't see them at FB combat speeds. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

oh, almost forgot...Awsum skin!!

Good skin, love the rivets and weathering especially on the front of the wings.

Only thing I'd do is up the contrast on the greens so that they don't look so faded.

actually, i think the colours are pretty accurate, this is a very used and abused plane, and i think that the colors should look matt and faded... i might be wrong tho...

WTE_Dukayn
08-18-2004, 11:46 PM
If it's REALLY used and abused, perhaps there should be more damage to the paint overall?

At the moment it kinda just looks like the paint has faded from sitting in the sun too long http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Would you fly an abused plane? How about into combat where it's for keeps. Not even on a sunny day.

May look nice for gaming and aid scaling effects, but abuse is more apt to fit with a dump truck instead of an airplane.

That said, the skin is nice, no need to call it abused, doesn't look it. Call it a weathered and well cared for seasoned vet. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Dude, great start. This type of weathering is rather rare. Usually it`s either too much or not at all. This looks like almost there. All i can say is quality work in progress. Keep it up.

To improve it more, you could add some oil stains.

German planes never leak oil. Now those rat-trap Brit planes are another story... LOL http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Skin is great, and the colors are nearly perfect. Are those RLM 02 and RLM 80? Those staffel markings should be filled in however, for that time period.

As for rivets, they were nearly flush with the skin in most areas. I like how you made just a hint of them. They look like the paint was worn from them, not like they stick out of the skin as most people do (Incorrectly I might add)

Overall, I would give her an "A". Perhaps some added paint chipping near the leading edge slats as these moved a great deal in combat and the edges should show some wear (Referencing the reast of the wear on the paint job)

Oh, remember a lot of VVS flyers like colorful paintjobs.. it goes well with their clown planes. ROFL

Yeah, right http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. What about late Gustavs http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif? Anyway, I wasn't speaking about engine leaks, I meant oil stains, left on wings and fuselage from mechanic's dirty hands and shoes, from spill during refueling, pouring oil into oil tanks, greasing and oiling of bearings, etc.

Well, since these mechanics were drafted, I guss you couldn't fire them, just shoot them. Seriously speaking, read Squadron/Signal publication Messerschmitt Bf-109 in action Part 1. There's a picture in it showing "recruited" french airplane mechanics working on Bf109E. They weren't too happy of their job. You could guess that the first time attrition started to rise, there wasn't much time to worry about cleaning.

Great looking wip. Waiting for the final with anticpation. A little work on the port wing root area and port side cockpit area wouldn't hurt. IE: foot marks at the root and paint scrapes at the cockpit as if to indicate many, many entrances and exits from this bird. She looks great in greyscale by the way.

I'm only dabbling at skin weathering etc., but my only thought (apart from what a great job), is that a lot of weathered skins tend to make the planes in FB look a little unsubstantial - if that's the correct word.
This is a tricky one to describe, but I've often thought many of them need added depth somehow. They often look as though made from fabric or something quite lightweight rather than steel and alloys.
Maybe it's the totally matt finish all over - no contrasting light and shade, no shiny areas or reflections from metallic surfaces - I hope this is making sense.
I know we can adjust contrast etc in PSPro/Photoshop or whatever, but still the planes look a little flimsy rather than heavy lumps of metal,to my eyes. I thought the aircraft in CFS3 had that added visual density or weight and you could adjust the reflection layer(can't recall its name) to give a glossier finish if needed. Shame about the rest of the game of course . . .

This is more of a general FB planes observation and not intended as a personal criticism - I'll be downloading your skin as soon as it's ready! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Try more weathering on the wing roots where the pilot steps to get in the plane. A bit more on the engine and under the cockpit window as well.

I would much rather have it run well than look good any day - especially after making the mechanic work all night to fix what I broke...
