I shouldn't look at sites like that. I buy too many kits. I haven't done too much modelling recently (I tried to complete an old Frog Corsair a while ago that kept calling to me from a bottom drawer). I have however over the past few years collected about 50 kits with the intention of getting round to starting them oneday. I have even bought a very nice airbrush! (And a furtune's worth of tools/paint etc.).
The standard of workmanship on them is outstanding these days, it just makes you drool when you see them in the shop. You just have to buy them!

I have some wonderful kits in my cupboards (no room though for anything else).

The enthusiasm I feel when I purchase a model disapears after it's been sitting at home for a while.
No worries, I'll have plenty to do when I eventually retire! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I also have to stay away from those sites http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif.
That Matchbox PK-502 1/32nd scale Bf 109 E-3 I started over a year ago still awaits finishing on my bench downstairs....

Ok you have forced me out of the woodwork http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I am currently working on a 48 scale FW 190 although it isnt going as well as my last venture: a 48 scale spitfireMkV(C). She is a beaut. I keep meaning to put up some pics but i just am so busy.
Dew-Claws 190 picture is absolutely stunning. I could never reach that standard. Not on my money anyway LOL

Ive spent the last year working on an 1/48 A-10.
The reason it's taking so long is I'm wiring the whole thing for fiber optic lights.

Ever try and light up intsruments in a 1/48 office?

Currently working on a 1/72 scale IL2M ...
(last weekend I bought another IL2 kit, same scale entirely different box/publisher ... got home ... opened the box ... exactly the same kit)
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Ready: 1/24th Hurricane (Pic can be seen somewhere in this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/7391018563/r/7391018563#7391018563))

Still unbuilt, in box: Bf190E4, P51D, Stuka, FW190. (all 1/24th, Airfix)

So, I'm not tempted by that site ... still got plenty to build...

Thats not that uncommon.
Some manufactures sell off the molds to another manufacturer when they finished the production run.

While were talking about this stuff, does anyone know of a reliable mail order service in the UK? Im having to go to Duxford to get models that are decent in the bulk. I just dont know of any decent shops near me. They all sell the standard Airfix spitfires VS 109 kits. No real challenges. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
*edit* Not that i mind going to Duxford lol it just costs alot ya know http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Accurate Miniatures will ship to you.
You'll never find a better kit than AM

When I used to make models, (until my eldest hijacked my hobby room as his bedroom!!!) I used Hannants as my regular supplier. They were always relaible but check what you want is in stock before ordering or you can end up waiting a while.

Not much of my work survives but I do have a few of my P-51s still around in a display case.

Heres 4 of them:

I have 30 odd of em. Most of em are 1:72 warbirds

What I want to do though is get into the 1:32 scale world. Can anyone recommend any good companies who do kits? There are so many names and I know sod all about who is who

I slop around with my plastic models as well.

That's a nice string of ponies Bo. I have started a P-51 (Mustang I) from an Accurate Minuatures P-51A, traded the cannon armed wings with a friend for a P-51B wings (also Accurate Minuature). Now I have the conversion set from Ultracast so I get get it going after several years.

Here's one of mine, an IAR 80

I also get my stuff from GreatModels as well. Last thing I bought was the Trumpter F4U-1D., an awesome model.

Kitlink.com is another website from greatmodels, but they only show whats in stock. A Valuble site if you need something ASAP.

Academy do very detailed kits. They even buy up older moulds (with good detailing) that are worth buying. They introduced a series of 1/72 planes a few years ago that are very cheap and well worth getting:

http://www.academy.co.kr/eng/ssCartimate/itemList.jsp?cid=10

Tamiya do excellent models, as do every Japanese manufacturer. Tamiya:

Hasegawa are also an excellent make. What about a 1/8 scale Fokker DR1!!!:

Revell also buy up older kits (good Monogram models) as well as making their own.
Revell:

Airfix of course:

OK, OK, I confess! I do 'em too!

In fact, I've been building model kits for a number of decades (with a few breaks here and there). In recent years, PC gaming has eaten into modelling time considerably but it's a hobby I'll always have.

With me its 1/48 for aircraft, 1/35 for AFVs and 1/350 for warships. My son, who is 10, has just started to get keen on both hobbies (flight simming and modelling). As I type this, he's playing FB/AEP but I reckon that given time, he'll also be helping me to assemble the considerable backlong of unbuilt kits (200+) that have accumulated in the household. He'll be starting on a Spitfire XIV very soon.

Best regards to all,
panther3485
