A week old or more now, but this may answer some recent Questions about much over the FP like clouds and install etc...

Tony,

We did several changes in a common AI behaviour, but they already take more from processor than it was. Just to remind you that 16 AI aircraft in the air executing different tasks may take up to 40% of processor time for calculations of AI.. Rember we neeed also calculate simultaniosly a lot of other things, such as FM, DM, 3D graphics, Ground AI, each bullet tajectory, etc. For all we need some compromisses or we need to go for only one plane mision modeling.... Something like this.

As for the crashes/collisions of aircraft, there are possible following things due to wrong design of missions (or wrongly generated missions in older versions of DGen):

- Waipoints set too low over ground with hills and mountains, AI pilots can't take more from FM that they can that to escape collisions. It is easy to chekc with the two low altitude waypoints and mountain beween them... the AI plane will try, but when it has not enough climb rate - then collision.

- AI level set too low and you fly with them too low. Then they may collide into the ground with attempt to catch you on the low altitude, or if it is friendly and you fly in formation you should remember that AI need to kep formation and when you make turns left or right some of them can't keep formation that to escape colission with the ground and may then hit the frendly aircraft by the case.

So now in README are several remainds for user how to build correct missions. There are notices about amount of waypoints, their altitudes, etc....

We have realy clever AI and _most_ bad things may be found only due to wrong design of missions.
Due to wrong design of missions also some time AI will not execute your commands if you are the leader and give them orders that they can't execute due:
- enemy too close and to execute stupid command measn for AI death - then the AI will ignore you order with answer.
- AI pilot know beter than you the damage of his aircraft and will continue the dogfight that to escape of situation like easy target for enemy, if they simply will go home (it is really the same in real life, if you don't know).

B&Z AI use when they can use it. If you still didn't find it, sorry... Many write me thanks for implementation of this tactic to AI...
AI use B&Z when they have real advatage in altitude and if they only see that you got imposible for such attack position then they switch their tactic.

The only one serious AI missing feature they see you across the clouds and on the sun.
But I told already in the past, that this will be changed only when clouds will be NON swichable as graphics option. It will be only in BoB.

What we are doing currently?

Add-on...

Some new ships
Several cockpits (both Japanese and US/UK planes)
Several new planes.
New map
Some fixes (minor, that found by me already later, but I like to change it myself)

NEW CLOUDS, including overcast (completley new code). However it may go later than in the first add-on because it is FPS eater and we would like to make it as an option for power PC and as well as controlable this feature by the host (all connected to such host should have the same clouds type On while playing online)

New anticheat pack that will protect our code for several years ahead and cheaters of all ranks will be not able even to read our data...

The last one above also we expect later than the first add-on which we plan right after the release

Main things there in the first add-on will be Betty bomber flyable and several others plus new map/theater)

One more thing.

We did numerous changes/tunings for a merged isntall as well.

In general there are hundreds small tunings, that maybe not visible at first time, however there are also great changes to Spitfire high altitude performance that we got too great in the past by the case of wrong data that we got.

These changes are done mostly for Allied planes and several - for German (for example accelerations of D-9 tuned for more precise values - in better site, but not too much than maybe some may expect )

As more we got from Jpane right data fro the planes - more precise we we model them. Say we model almost the whole series of A6M Zero with different engines and say with such as Sakae 12 engine will have negative G problem, but these with 31W engine had much better cooling, etc
We model Japanese Rockets (one fully confirmed type of serial production), Ki-84 got more precise roll rate (don't tell me about performance - we model with the best engine type these series, and in USA tested with the worst...)

In modeling of Japanese aircraft we look at first for Japanese data (I'm in contact with many Japanese people that are historians or fans of aviation and that accumulate for me data, and continue to accumulate that to get for the first time the pacific sim that deserve Japanese attention!) and then ofcource look for USA trials data (sad, but most of US data for Jpanese planes has a lot of wrong things or trials were done already after the war when there was not neccessary to get full and precise data....)

Also would like to point.... These that will play for Japane... Without right tacktic of highly maneuverable dogfight you may became the looser... Americans had advantage from the beginning and till end of the war in all aspects... Enough to say that Japanese till end of the war used Ki-43!!!

Can anyone confirm this? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

thats great Lexx! very helpful.

I like how Oleg anticipates Ussian whiners "Ki-84 got more precise roll rate (dont tell me about performance - we model with the best engine type these series, and in USA tested with the worst..)"..

I know you are concerned now about the cloud modification and how much of a resource hog it will be, (me too)... I guess we will have to wait and see.

Thx for the heads-up. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Luthor, question: why do you always say "FP" (Facific Pighters?) instead of PF? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

S!

A lot of people would like the same criteria for the 605dc instead of the db http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

This post typifies why I have so much respect for the man and his crew.

oh for sure

after 7K its performance should have been droping off . . . . . but it doesnt in FB , at all

Oh, so no more lightweight mk xiv then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.
These are great news, for those who care, this should be much more rewarding for spit players because a certain uber tag will go away (even if most combats will still be under 4km!). This is also good news to high alt Lw's due to better relative performance.
