Yep, looks great. If it wasn't for that SF muck I'd have bought that game long ago. Pity.

Lomac FC is a very under appreciated sim. I loved it but cant play it anymore. Since I rebuilt my pc and changed to Windows XP64 Starcrap wont let me install anymore. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Great video btw.

Nice vid. The music is annoying though.

I never really got into LOMAC. I bought it last year but between IL2 and FSX I don't have any free gaming time to really learn to play it in depth.

So many games, so little time.

I thought only the Flaming Cliffs addon had Starfarce on it?

Amen. I had original LOMAC but just couldn't get into it, IMO it wasn't user friendly enough like FB certainly is.

Lomac is even more hardcore then FB. The core of it, the sim itself, is pretty neat. But the campaigns, pilot management, even Aircraft management is a pain in the ***. No immersion whatsoever there.

If you get over that, though, that sim is a real gem.

Agree, but the interface really sawks.
I've seldomly seen a sim where the interface was as bad as in LOMAC.

Also, the FM seems to be scripted all over, which also is a pain in the a$$.

The choice of planes also is a bit off.
Okay, it's a descendant of Flanker 2.5, but it'll be much nicer and more attractive on the market when more western a/c are modelled.
Put in some planes like the Viper or the Bug and I'll come back to LOMAC http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I'm gonna need a new rig, however.

Correct. But Lomac is not really worth playing without it. FC fixes so much stuff and made the sim very enjoyable, so if I cant install that no point in playing.

I heard a rumor a while back that after Black Shark they would possibly be putting together something using the F-16CJ.

Personally...I'd be more interested in something that added the Typhoon, F-35, F-22, or Gripen or something like that. I'd actually love to see something like Typhoon 2000...never got to play that game (my computer was terrible at the time) but it sounded really neat and the Typhoon gives so many options for air to air and air to ground.

HEY GUYS,
I dont know if any of you have tried the Starforce removal tool, but it worked for me.
I could not get LOMAC FC to start on Vista and lots of probs on XP.
Go to the site read overview and instructions install the removal tool and hopefully it works as well for all, as it has for me.
Im really getting into the su33, and a-10 of course.

So does Lock On Gold include the Flaming Cliffs expansion with it? I think on the LOMAC website it says the Su25T is added as a flyable in LOMAC Gold but it doesn't specifically mention if the whole expansion is part of it.

If you think LOMAC is realistic and realistically displays avionics, you should pay Falcon4 a visit and you'll laugh about LOMAC1.02.

In FlamingCliffs only the SU25T gets the advanced flight physics, damage-modelling and avionics. Everything else is pretty basic. Easy to learn, difficult to master, as many details are below the surface. For most operations you barely need as much buttons as for IL2.

It lacks a realistic AI, though, and online-playing is still quite buggy and a good example why BoB shouldn't be modable for real competition. I've been shot down twice by a Mig29A firing AIM-54 Phoenix at me at well BVR and I've been killed when somebody dropped a nuclear bomb on my airfield, which is only available through a modification, too.
You'd also be disturbed if you fly in formation with another F15 at Mach 1.2, when suddenly an A10 joins your formation....

But it is an underestimated Flightsim, that one is certain. I'm really looking forward to the BlackShark-Addon - the details are incredible.

Capt.LoneRanger the problems with falcon 4 is that the graphics are mediocre and the FM is bad.. now what you say? when i say bad FM it mean bad FM but great avionics agreed.

Of course Falcon 4 is a more detailed simulation, it is a single plane study sim. Much like what Black Shark for Lomac is going to be. Lomac itself focuses on combat like IL-2. A lot of stuff must be simplified such as startup procedures and whatnot. If every plane went into detail as Falcon Lomac would not even be completed yet.

Capt.LoneRanger
06-05-2007, 03:02 PM
Well, Falcon is almost 10 years old, LOMAC is 2 years old. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Not difficult to see why the graphics are a bit behind, but even besides that, well, LOMACs flight-modell is HEAVILY scripted (e.g. stalls, the cobra-maneuver on a button even works in full stall, landing is pretty unrealistic, etc.). Not that Falcon is better in these regards, but it also allows all planes (!) to be flyable with decent avionics modelled (RealismMod), the AI is by far superior to LOMACs and the mission and campaign-system from LOMAC is 1:1 taken from Mig29 Fulcrum (as most modells were in the initial release!) and pretty ridiculous compared to the full war simulation we have in Falcon4 (what was it? 30.000units fighting in real-time?).

Anyway, it was posted, getting into LOMAC was difficult because it is too complex to handle and surely this is primarily aimed at the avionics and in that regard LOMAC falls behind Falcon. Still, I agree, that LOMAC was aimed to give a good competition for online gaming and a wider variety of planes to achive that.

Bad FM and bad graphics it's a no go. Lomac is not perfect etheir. Those jets simulation are too difficult for a lots of members here. but it is a fantastic fun and if i didn t have my friends on il2 i would of quit il2 long time ago. More you fly other sims like lomac or FSX for flying around more it will be harder to come back on il2.

Same with a full air war simulation between il2 and BOB2, bob2 ridiculize il2 in that domain.

Actually at Frugalsworld.com, there are several F16 Jockeys who say that the F16 in F4 has a flight modell that comes pretty close to that of the real thing.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Bad FM and bad graphics it's a no go. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

You could say the same about Warbirds and other famous flightsims. After all, IL2 doesn't look pretty in many regards either. But still, the points I made are the detailed avionics and the campaign-system.

On the other hand, playing a campaign with scripted missions is not much better and definitely not, when you get shot down flying at 32,000ft by a single HE-FFAR from a Huey at 30ft. And if that is not enough, you should check the LOMAC forums for some more stories like that, e.g. the missile fuel being calculated for travel over ground, not flying time or distance, etc. On the online side, the Russian avionics were largely updated and upgraded, while the F15C got only minor changes and still isn't up to what it was in the 80s.

It's all a matter of taste and what you want and what you get. I play both and I like the pros of both worlds and I hate the cons of both worlds and I can very nicely live with that. I'm sorry some people have to dig foxholes on either side of the fence.

BTW: If you want some really good and high quality movies with LOMAC action, you should check out this link. Still the best and getting the action of high speed combat are the videos from Glwoing Amraam, who is now official video-maker of EagleDynamics.

From the thread at the Lomac forum I'm guessing it's "Stay out of the clouds" here: (Although no 'Mack the knife' song)

This thread made me look for an old Lomac movie that was a stab at UBI's Starforce.

It used Wars Low Rider as part of the soundtrack.....still looking.

I still enjoy LOMAC, especially the A-10. It can still surprise like IL2. Recently I put an ammo dump in a map and hit it with a couple 2000 pounders.

It went up with a satisfying thump and then proceeded to give a multitude of secondaries with ammo cooking off and exploding wildly into the air as well as the concussion waves blowing out with each big bang. Very cool.

Modern combat is not as satisfying as hanging onto the other guys rudder trying to fill him with lead-but it can still have its moments!

I like the A10 a lot, too. The secondaries in LOMAC are great. I especially love the damage effect on driving cars and tanks. Sometimes instead of just exploding, they drift off the road, before they come to a stop, start burning and sometimes explode after that.

I got LOMAC for 2.99 in a bargain bin, certainly was a bargain too, but I never installed it yet.

Must try it out, I prefer WW2 action to jets tho.

Bill et John rocks! It's like Hot Shots or something. Brilliant! How do they do it? I just love the dropped Maverick and the chain reaction that follows. Meeeeerde! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif
