Earlier today I visited the Royal Air Force Museum at RAF Cosford (http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/) which runs in conjunction with the RAF Museum at Hendon, London. It was a very good visit with some interesting aircraft on display, some of which I had never seen before. The museum's centre piece is the all new and fantastic hanger which encompasses the Cold War which includes all sorts of things related to the period of the Cold War. The centre pieces being the Vulcan, Valiant and Victor bombers which formed the UK's strategic nuclear stike force. Other exhibits include a MIG-21, MIG-17 and an F-111. Also on hand are some of armoured vehicles of the period including a Czech BMP-1, a German Leopard 1 MBT and UK Scorpion and Saladin recce vehicles. Even on hand are a Mini, Trabant and VW Beetle too! Other exhibits include Surface to air missiles and a Thor ICBM.

There are three more hangers to visit which are each devoted to Test & Experimental aircraft from the UK which includes a fascinating stand about the Martin-Baker ejector seats! A second hanger contains a mix of combat aircraft from WWII to the present day. Another hanger full of transport and support aircraft plus an amazing exhibits such as German WWII guided and un-guided weapons, a mix of missiles and propeller and jet engines.

Enough of my rambling, check out some of my pictures I managed to capture during the day;

Superb photo's Goose! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Looks like you had a great day out! I'd love to see an F111 close up and as for the BMP, I dispatched many of those flying Microprose's 'Apache AH-64' many years ago http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Vulcan, (Gawd Bless 'er) looks stunning. Great photo's all of them, credit to you for your photographic eye and thanks for sharing them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Love that Trabant http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Why does a RAF museum house a BMP-1, Leopard 1 and two cars ? Is that "buy now" sign on the Beetle for real ?

The exhibition was about the Cold War so they had many exhibits of the period, and no, the "Buy Now" sign had nothing to do with the Beetle,it was to do with the stand about the economies of East and West http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Great photos Goose http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I especially like the pictures of the Lincoln and the Hornisse http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The museum at RAF Cosford was an important part of my childhood - me and my school friends would go there nearly every birthday when we were kids http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. It's changed a lot since then (for the better). I visited the museum a few years ago, and last month I went to an airshow (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/2491065466?r=2491065466) there.

A few photos from my visit 3 years ago:
