What is the difference between the flack with the white puffs and the flack with the black puffs? Which one is more lethal?

Teh most lethal is small one, 20mm.
They just riddle ya.

88mm (large caliber) or larger cannons are dangerous too but less so, on some occasions (very rare) they can score direct hit on you, in which case you are insta dead http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

Black puff, white puff... I guess difference is in type of cannons, not sure whether it has anything to do with the cannon power.

I believe the big black puffs are only from the large guns (85mm, 88mm). As DKoor said, one hit and you are dead. Even if they miss, but detonate close to you, they can cause damage. They also bounce your plane around making bomb runs difficult.

The white puffs are from 20mm and 25mm guns. Most aircraft can take a few hits from these and get home, but it depends on where you are hit. These guns also fire very quickly and can throw up a lot of fire power in a short time. A few of these guns can cause big frame rate hits on older computers.

They're just different types of AA.

Black:
-Called flak
-Meant for long range and high altitude
-Has a very very long range
-Are very very powerful, but rarely directly hit, their shrapnel is what usually does the damage.
-Typically fired from a cannon, such as this. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/69/8%2C8-cm-Flugabwehrkanone_37.8.8_cm_anti-aircraft_cannon_37.JPG/800px-8%2C8-cm-Flugabwehrkanone_37.8.8_cm_anti-aircraft_cannon_37.JPG)

White:
-Are not technically "flak"
-Meant for short range and low altitude
-You have to be in their immediate area to shoot at you
-Are not as powerful, but hit very often and have a high rate of fire
-Typically fired from something more like a machine gun, kind of like this. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/05/Flakvierling-38-20mm-hatzerim-1.jpg/674px-Flakvierling-38-20mm-hatzerim-1.jpg)

The heavy 88 flak is very dangerous to bombers. Although still dangerous to fighters, its unlikely to score a hit, fighters being small and nimble.

The lighter flak is dangerous to fighters attacking ground units around the general area. It often hits when you bore right down to shoot at it, as it has an easy straight shot.

I usually take out the most dangerous flak with a bomb from a FW190/Bf1009/Spit/P47, then procede to shoot up the rest. If you dont take out the flak first at a group of ground targets you will almost certainly get hit as you fly around hitting the other ground targets.

Its essential to take out the flak first, if you want to make several passes shooting up ground targets. Or else you will be shot down or badly damaged by it.

Flak is a german word for anti aircraft guns
AAA means Anti aircraft artillary as far as i know

that means that the meaning is generally the some. its just two different languages.

however i think that flak is commonly used as the heavier guns while AAA for smaller ones.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">(very rare) </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Happened to me 2 times in a row last February when I was still participating in the Airforce War flying Pe-2s. Burnt me out for good; I've flown online once or twice after that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Bad luck, etc. but the last straw nevertheless...

Here's a good article by Dart from SimHQ that has a couple of vid links that demonstrate ground attack techniques with various weapons.

This is a 47mb vid of "How to Destroy AA Defences"

Enjoy!

The "Black Puff" flak is what ended my most recent USSR fighter campaign... Was in a fight where the stuff was a about and WHACK.. PK. The stuff is nasty if you get into a lot of it.

I say ended because the way I fly my campaigns.. If I get killed or captured I don't hit "refly". I delete the campaign and start over.

The little stuff I don't get as tense over if there are several targets for it to shoot at. Not fun having every AAA gun at a target wanting YOU....
