Ok so you log on to a server and start your flight your in mid flight and see XXXXX at your low 12 heading towards you. You flip inverted and go after him. On average what is that juiciest target? And most importantly why?
For me it has to be the P-38!
Big wings slow as hell and is so easy to kill.
It takes a skilled jockey to fly one of those things well and thus far I've only seen a few people who could fly one well. But on average every one is awed by it's looks and decide to give it a shot!
Which I don't minde because....well it's an easy kill!

My favourite would be the one piloted by someone with not many hours on the game, and no TrackIR.

Why? They're less likely to see me, less likely to react to my first wildly inaccurate shots, more likely to pull up after me as I zoom back up to a perch.

Plane wise - probably a 109, they're easier to kill with one burst than a 190.

Slow? Compared to what? The ETO is a dangerous place because the Lightning does not enjoy such a decisive speed advantage but in the PTO the P38 could and can outrun any opposition until the introduction of the J2M and Ki84 in mid-late 44. It eats Zeros, Hiens, Oscars and Goshikisens for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

My favourite targets

ETO: I16s, P40s, LaGG3s, Hurricanes, P47s

PTO: Zeros, Oscars, Hellcats, P40s (yea I switch sides a lot here)

P-47. It's like a ballpark frank.

Out of the planes I've run into online:

Zero: Slow, fragile.

Any bomber, light or heavy: I might get damaged, and ultimately shot down from gunner return fire, but I'll press my attack and rake the bomber till it goes down, or I die.

P-38's are anything but slow...

My favourite target is any of the A6M Zero models. Nice big wings make great aim points and the fuel tank fires are great.

I fly the 110 a lot and my favourite targets are Spits and Tempests. When I hit Spits with my twin 108s nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing them fold up like a wet Taco as their wing folds up around them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif or they simply go BOOOOM http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Tempests tend to break in half and flutter to their doom http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

the 38 is one of the fastest planes in the game, especially the L-Late. it is faster than a KI84 on the deck. Good Lord when I fly on Zeke's and I can get my hands on a 38 I need to wipe the drool off my chin, flown correctly your almost untouchable. you should probably get off the wonder woman servers and fly against the more experienced pilots that have more stick time. too many people jump into the 38 and use it for bomb runs only. it is MORE than an ample dogfighter.there are very few planes I fear while in a 38. LA-7, spit 25 are 2 because that are great at everything, they out turn every thing and out run everything, true noob planes. KI's are beatable depending on the pilot. just know your plane and know your opponent. in level flight or shallow climb or dive the 38 is faster than a KI, especially at Altitude.

Favorite target, there is a few:
ETO_WF: Spitfire - need I explain? I didn't think so http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
ME109 - because it's just insanely easy, like picking coins in SuperMario

ETO_EF: any kind of Lavochkin and I'll happily kill Gorbonov and Godkov if they are with him http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

PTO: hmmm hard to decide, P40 and A6M5 probably...

Yeah I had found (to me anyway) that Tempests seemed to have a bit of a glass jaw.

I like that motorized giant German glider (forget the model no.) So dramatic when it falls out of the sky http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I like shooting up corsairs. I find them easier to take down. P-38's are also good targets but can take alot of dammage.

I tend to stay away from the full realism no external view servers. My life is real enough I don't need to spend 15 hours searching for some one only to be deep sixed from the high six!
Lately I've been hanging in the 4.08 server due to it's speed and fun factor, small maps external view and large plane selection.
But for me....on a P-38 down low is like playing keep away with a fat chick! Boy it's fun! Go inverted and just dive on that fatty mc fatty! And I don't care how fast you can accelerate bullets still will be faster. So give them a bit of an arc and just count the hits!
The mustang is another fun target to go after!
And any one who is willing to fly these two planes on line really has some big nuts! Between the flat spins and being a big target.....big nuts!

then I must have some pretty big ones then, I fly the 38 almost exclusive, very seldom do I bomb run with it either. I like to dogfight with it, and I do very well. I usually fly Warclouds, but have been playing with the Skies of fire arcade server some recently just for a change of pace, and I more than hold my own against all the +25 and LA-7 in there.

Anyone that says the P38 is slow is talking out their butt http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

The problem for the P38 is that very few actually know how to fly them properly, flown correctly it is almost untouchable http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don't care how fast you are! If i'm at your high six my bullets will hit you. And on a target as big and as fat as the 38 it's a sure hit.

Sounds like the only 38's that you have seen have been flown by noobs that have them loaded up with bombs and/or rockets.

You won't ever be on the high 6 of a 'low and slow P-38' if it's being flown properly. For me, 'slow' in a P-38 is 250 MPH, at the top of a loop or Immleman(sp?).

The P-38 is a very good plane and more than capable of holding it's own against just about everything in the game. It's only drawback, if you can call it that, is that it's not 'noob friendly'. It takes a lot of time to learn how to use it's strengths, and fly it correctly.

uhm..best target?

must be the Ju-52!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
beside of this i think p-40.Why? i dont know..im just good to shoot at them ^^
As for the p-38..yeah if the pilot isnt a p-38 expert, the plane is really easy to shoot down. But if the pilot know what he is doing, p-38 is pretty hard to hit.

I don't know.....it's not that it takes some super skill to be good, like some newbie may interpret.

Good P-38 flying is not much different to good flying of any other plane.

First step forward to being a good fighter sim pilot is to learn that it's not the plane chars that will save you, it's the tactical position that makes difference between losing and winning. Another words....you may take the best plane in the sim in your opinion (Spitfire 25lbs, LA-7 I don't care whatever you choose).....and you'll get owned most of the times by fighters such are 190, P-47, P-51 etc. in superior tactical position.

For instance.........when I was flying 190 I've been flying it on few arcade server for a few times.
After my kill rate was 10-15 E/A shot down for no losses, half of the server flew 190 in hard turn deck fight thinking that this must be wonder winning plane.
I can see their logic behind...if I do a good job in some plane that must be - "the plane...it's really good and better than mine".
They never considered that I always engaged them from superior position and that 90% of my wins were done in less than 10 seconds passes.

Still another easy target to take out due to it's difficulty of mastery!
Zeros are alot of fun to but catching those guys is a bit hard since they can turn to darn tight!

Back on topic.

Favourite target?

Bombers - preferably lots of them in formation. I like setting up the perfect pass - blasting through a bunch of them at fuselage shaking speed. Feeling just a little bit lucky if I down one, and loving the satisfaction of getting away without a scratch.

Preferred?

Anything that doesn shoot back and can't outfly me.

Mossie is lovely as long as I'm in a plane faster.

DC-3 is great too. Love that for practicing passes in my Ki-43 (2x7.7mm versions) with arcade hit arrows switched on...
