I don't know if this was bring up before bu I thought it would be cool if we have in-game feature that will allow player that, when he open fire 'camera' automatically start recording (that would be of course toggleable via assigned key in control panel - somewhat like toggle autopilot on/off command). For recording to stop, it would be required for player to press appropriate key.

Hm.. that camera was in some of the allied planes in war, why shouldn't we have it? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Also records would be in black-white 'old' technique, just like intro.

It would be cool IMO, please give your thoughts..

you can already run tracks in B/W

How do you run them in good old B&W?

I agree , an automatic gun cam shouldnt be to hard to get . Maybe at least a keystroke to start and stop recording . If thats already in the game call me dingy and tell me how! And how do you record in B/W ?

Maybe at least a keystroke to start and stop recording

There is actually. Look in the control list, near the bottom for "start/stop track record", or something to that effect.

I was thinking of something more cool than what we have in game.(+we already have possibilities to have this -- game already support this..). It would be just for pure fun and immersion boost.

Currently, we have tracks that, if you fly with cockpit on, are recording just that, etc..

I was thinking of something *just* like WW2 gun camera - pit off, crosshair off.. -just tracers like 'real thing'.

It is hard to fixate on the enemy and at the same time press button start/stop rec while also at the same time you give the poor guy accurate burst in tail.(I often forget to engage rec while in close encounter with enemy aircraft http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif)

It would be way simplier if you want to use the feature, once in game, press mapped key for "toggle combat camera on/off", and when in combat when you fire your guns camera automatically start rec in black-white 'old' method.

Once when you finish your mission, go into tracks and view your gun-camera footage. Of course without sound, just video..http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Those old real WW2 gun-footages are cool..http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I use Java Guncam and Irvanview to make guncamera footage.

if it recorded everytime you fired it would put extra load on your system and may cause laggage. try it out though you may get some really cool tracks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Could you please explain how these programs work?

And DarkCanuck420 I have imagine the whole thing with a thought that we *should* have toggleable key for engaging thta camera. So in ctrl sett. we should have key "Toggle combat camera on/off". So you can choose manually when to enable it and when not (maybe prior to some dogfight or diving on bombers etc.).. but generally I agree, some stutter cna't be avoided, but we can have that already in game with .nrtk's..

Java Guncam is a stand alone program that when started runs in the background of il2.When you fire it records just like a guncamera. It is programable for bw and color and can be made to
look closs to real film. Irfanview is a photo
editer I use to link film together to make my slide show look like film projector footage.
Both are free ware and can be found by doing
a search on google.

Oh I forgot I have a hp430n computer with a 2.1
ghz processor upgraded to 1 gig ram with a Nividia 5200 card. I do not experience any noticeable stutters when using Java Guncam.
Though it only records when firing you program
it tobe turned off with keyboard joystick buttons.

Thanks a loooot, gbollin. This guncam is wonderful. BTW, can you recommend other utilities for use with IL2 games ?

jguncam is a real blast. Thanks. Maybe I try to make some GIFs out of these JPEGs, so I can have whole footage with 1 click.

About these 'other utilities', what do you have in mind Samba.? If you meant all available utility, try Bearcat99 link (he's got link that says "Sturmovik Essentials" in his sig). If you can't find his posts, you can find his thread in IL2-General Discussion Forum; he's got first sticky thread on that page, name of the thread is "Who we are?".

Thanks for the direction. I gave a look there. Once I heard of a utility that makes possible to save/restore the points one scores in multiplayer sessions. That would be interesting, working like a perpetual counter.

Cheers,
Samba.

I believe you speak of utility called "Sturmolog"?
It collects your online stats and gives you info about all kind of events also. (your fire/hit ratio, your points by game, destroyed planes ground targets etc. etc.).

Also you may find some awesome stats by certain players (hit ratio over 30% --off all rounds he fired, he hit his target with 30% of them).

Also similar program is IL2 Manager 5.0. It also collects your online info+a lot more option also.

I'm however unsure if there si any program that can display your offline stats http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

Hm. Im gonna post now thread about that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Just do a quick recording when you start firing...I have a button on my joy stick keyed to do that, which I simply activate with my thumb‚‚ā¨¬¶I can do it as I finger my gun-trigger, or start a bit before or a bit after I fire..

After the mission is over, the *ntrk can be played(in 800X600 mode window), and you select "no-cockpit, no gunsight" viewing option. Then, capture what you see using either FRAPS or Hypercam. Then use VirtualDub to make it greyscale, blur, "age", whatever, to give it WWII Guncam "Look"... Usable Freeware versions of all three applications are available off the internet. It may sound complex, but it isn't once you get used to the process.

Here‚‚ā¨ôs some WWII guncam footage(European theater):

Luftwaffe guncam footage (http://members.cox.net/doolittle80/LW3.WMV) 3.3Mb

USAAF footage (http://members.cox.net/doolittle80/USAAF1.WMV) 2.8Mb

Visit my Site(link is in my sigblock below)to see LOTS of IL2/FB/PF (and old CFS2) guncam footage which I have made(plus a few clips made by others).

Thanks again Marten for the tip.
This utility I told before, make possible in a on-line session to save your score AND restore it in the next on-line session, so that you does not start the session with zero points, but with the ones you finished the previous on-line session.

Well... I heard about it from one guy during an on-line session and do not know if this is true, but in that event the guy was showing a score of plus than 8,000 points (what made me ask him how that could be possible -- and he was not the game hosting).

Still curious...

Samba. just download Sturmolog and install it. Go online and join one server. When you shot someone down there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif left and join other server. B4 you do that check your stats.

When you shot someone in other server, disconnect and run Sturmolog and you will see that when you load your .log file that your score will be 'cumulated' from both servers. You can review every session you have been in..

Fliegeroffizier thanks for the links. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
