The European Air Force has had great fun flying Scorched Earth Campaigns.

This is a movie of one campaign that my squadron, 602, along with 19 squadron, flew against our fellow Italians in 51 Stormo.

The campaign is based on the actual events of the Battle of Milne Bay. I have re-created and dramatised the actual missions flown in the online version.

Historically, this was Japan's first major defeat on land of the War. They failed to capture the airfield in Milne Bay and had to withdraw.

Would the online battle have the same result?

Top quality movie. Very well made. And I must admit, as an Aussie, I found it very moving in parts. Well done all involved.

Les.

Thanks for all the comments.

Morteiin, although this is not a true account of the real Battle of Milne Bay, I did want to try and capture some of the intensity. Some scenes are actually very close to some of the real events:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">The Japanese troops overwhelmed and pushed back the first Australian battalions encountered, the 61st and 2/10th Battalions, but began suffering heavy casualties when the Kittyhawk fighters of 75 and 76 Squadrons RAAF began bombing and strafing them. Nevertheless, they continued advancing for a few days and reached the edge of one of the airfields, No 3 Airstrip, where the attack was turned back by Australian and American troops who were dug in and armed with artillery, mortars and heavy machine-guns </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'm encouraged that you did find some parts moving. Any good movie should move it's viewers with some emotion.

On the Australian theme, you might like another movie I made 'Beaufighters of 455 Squadron'. Close to home for me because these Aussies were based in Scotland. (Click 'My Movies' sig to see it)

That was an enjoyable few minutes. Nicely done. I thought it was perhpas a bit dark but that could also be due to the angle I was watching it from. Good stuff though. Looks like it was fun to fly as well.

Some lovely camera work!

It looks a bit pixelated on my screen when viewing the sea or sky. I'd have prefered a larger download for a higher quality.

hey Dmdseeker, funny you should mention that! I have experimented with creating a DVD image for download but haven't got round to testing it.

I would appreciate if you, or anybody testing this. It's a standard vob file that can be burned directly onto a DVD disc and watched on a TV. It's in PAL format, so I'm not sure how it would look in NTSC. Most DVD players can handle both formats, but there may be some distortion in NTSC.

I've downloaded it; do I just burn the five files directly to a DVD?

I've got Nero; but I've never tried copying/ripping/burning DVD's other than data.

That was great! I love watching good quality IL2 movies so I have seen quite a few and that one ranks up there with the best of them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

It is also a great demonstration of how good IL-2 can look on a high spec PC.

Quite good movie, well illustrates the historical aspects of SEOW and IL-2. One thing that may have received a bit more emphasis is that the airplane and ground unit movements are planned mission by mission manually in the SEOW Mission Planner (MP) online, giving a very important tactical/strategical aspect to the whole game.

Open Nero, Select DVD Options, then 'DVD-Video', drag the full Video_TS folder onto the blank image (there will already be Video_TS folder on the blank DVD image) and burn.
