View Full Version : Rather disappointing USMC campaign.

I had no idea that after Guadalcanal there is only one more mission. I was really hoping for Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Not only that, but an upgrade from the P-39 to at least the Corsair.

P-39? USMC? Odd, the USMC didn't use army fighters. That must be one of the stupid campaigns with the original PF.

You need to get Cactus Diary (a 3d party campaign). None of the canned campaigns in PF are even passable, sadly.

Sounds like you have Pacific Fighters 3.0. You may want to upgrade...

USMC never used P-39s...there was an error in the campaign generator in 3.0 for that. In later editions things are much better. I suggest the USMC Corsair campaign over Okinawa. Fantastic campaign.

SBD and PBJ. Forget that fighter stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes, I have PF out of the box. What kind of stock upgrades do you recommend?

I thought it kind of odd that the USMC fighter had U.S. Army written across the bottom. What was the proper plane? p-40?

Hmmm, I thought only the Army used the P-39 and P-40. Icefire is right, patch up your PF. AFAIK, the Marines used Wildcats, then Corsairs.

Listen to Crash though, SBDs and PBJs FTW. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

If you were thinking that Pacific Fighters was going to be a complete WW II Pacific sim, then you will be sorely disappointed to find out there are no Solomon Islands maps.

True, the unpatched PF has a P-39 USMC campaign. Patch up and you'll still have your old campaign, but you will lose the ability to start the same campaign from new. Historical bug fix.

The USMC was traditionally an extension of the navy so their purchasing and procurement was typically through US Navy sources. The USMC started the war with the Brewster Buffalo and then onto the F4F Wildcat.

Correct patching order is here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/5581083643

The patches add new aircraft, maps, and other components. Pacific Fighters is not a complete representation of the Pacific Air War. There are some areas not represented well, however, some of the DGEN campaigns are quite good. I recommend skipping ahead and doing the Okinawa USMC Campaign in a Corsair (the USMC's prefered aircraft of choice in the late war). This campaign gives you a good mix of flying distances, fighter sweeps, fleet defense, ground attack operations, and so forth. It starts on the carrier but I fully expect to be landed on an airbase before long...

I agree, bird_brain's Cactus Diary is excellent

There are some other USMC campaigns in there as well

I think my "Straight Shot" and "Straight Down" campaigns will work with a PF only install. People seem to like them. See the link below.

Kaiser_W I hope I can help you with some advise.Perhaps you should get Nimits upgraded DCG and Lowengrin DCG. They both are fantastic upgrades from the original Campaings.

I though the same as you did. I originaly thought that Pacific Fighter was going to be ultimate Pacific Theater sim. I was wrong. But its still a great Sim. No doubt about it.If you merge it with Forgotten Battle/Ace its even better.

Now can fly not only in the Eastern Fornt and Western Front but also in the Pacific Theater.
Now that is fun.

In my opinion the addition of the Pacific Theater has made this Series a lot better and enjoyable and a better represantion of World war two Aviation history through a Sim.

No its not a perfect Sim but no Sim is ever going to bee.

I have Combat Flight Simulator two. Its a better pure representative of the Pacific Theater after all the upgrades avialable through its community but I still find myself flying Pacific Fighter as much as I fly in Combat flight Simulator two. They are both great Sims.

So do not give up and with time and the upgrades you will find your self enjoying this Sim very much.

This has been only a opinion

I was just discussing in another thread about the same thing. I have a book published in 1951. For HQ's Marine Wing HQ's Group, 3D Marine Aircraft Wing, AIRFMFPAC.

Called Marine Aviation in the Philippines. It is an awesome book, basically like a field manual, or flight manual, on how to bomb strafe, and the basic over all tatics they used,, and what campaigns they did over there. very detailed, enought to make a addition to the PTO. Historically correct I might add. the main planes seem to be the Corsairs, SBD's and hellcats amongst B-25's.
